What car and engine do you have? I've used the search function on here for P0638 and it seems the likely culprit is the throttle pedal position sensor, but whether you have one of those will depend on what car you have.
I agree
Google implies throttle position based on stilos and ducatos
My is Punto 1.2 active
If its an active - that will be the 8v engine, based on UK spec, itll be throttle cable operated, so the only sensor will be on the throttle body only

Ziggy

Not the pedal position, It is the throttle actuator position. Unplug and clean the connectors from it and all others as far as you can follow the wires.

Oh, and my experience is that it is ok to drive if it has power as normal. The light will clear itself after a few driving periods if the fault does not happen. If it happens while driving you will notice a loss of power. Pretty sure you could drive it and see how bad it is it will get you home.
