Please I need advice?

I have a Fiat 500X, which I love, had a Fiat 500 POP before.

Anyway, the X is a 15 Plate and it was recently valeted, the lovely chap pointed out that my alloys were "milking", he used the word oxidising and explained what this that meant. He said he had seen it before many times because of the type of alloys I had. He told me that I should get them checked out and they should be replaced under warranty.

Phoned Arnold Clarks and told to bring the car in and they would check it out, they took photographs and said they would send them to Fiat, also at the same time I was told by Arnold Clarks that the warranty was not in my name and that I may have to pay an administration fee or I might not get a warranty!! I was also told by the male in the service department that in twelve years he had never heard of alloys "milking"/oxidising, told me it was wear and tear, I have only done 16,000 miles, he said it would be stones on the roads!!!

So today I have heard back from Arnold Clark. My car is to be booked in and the alloys taken off and sent away somewhere, I'll be without the car for 4 days or so. If I want a courtesy car it will cost £12 a day!!

I want to know if under warranty instead of resprayed or whatever that I should be getting the alloys replaced. I have phone Fiat directly to complain and ask why I am not getting them replaced as I feel they will only oxidise again as they are mot good quality alloys???

Would appreciate advice, I am so annoyed!

I'm guessing from your description you have what they call diamond cut wheels with a painted finish but a high polished shine to the surface which is then painted over with clear lacquer. What happens is water gets in between the lacquer and the bare metal and oxidises the bare metal and discolours the lacquer, they should not do this but it is very common, many manufacturers will replace the wheels as there is no simple repair, however fiat have a weird warranty where in the 3rd year the dealer fronts the costs.

I would look carefully through the warranty booklet to see what is and isn't covered specifically with regards to the wheels as you might find in the 3rd year they are not covered.

Other manufacturers have a 3 or more year no quibble warranty.

A lot of the milkiness comes from too strong acid used to clean wheels, if there are any chips the acid will get under/lift the lacquer coat and attack the alloy. It also happens on "chrome" trims a lot.

Hi. Go to a different dealership..

Your warranty is with FIAT not Arnold Clark..

Its probably corrosion UNDER the lacquer layer.

My 2012 had 4 x alloys replaced...free under warranty

Although do ask FIAT what the warranty implications are if they end up refurbing the originals..
