Hello,

I have owned a Fiat Punto bought PRe Reg in 2003.
It has done 86k miles and now it is starting to cause major problems ie. steering sensor, oil leak, temperature gauge switching off etc.

I am looking at replacing my car and although concerned about Fiat reliability I must say that the design of the Fiat Punto is better than the design of other similar city cars ie. Nissan note, yaris.

I have other friends that have Puntos from 2004 and 2005 and they all tell me about sensor issues, engine lights, temp issues so it would appear that there are build issues.
I am worried that said build issues will also be around on the new models...

Basically my question is, from what you have experienced owning a Fiat, would you guys buy another one or would you go for other models?

Thanks

I had a punto years ago and now its time to say goodbye to my 500L. I will not be getting another Fiat this time but will be looking elsewhere. I might be back in a few years time and see what there is to offer but for now I will be out.

The current punto model harks back 12 years. The 500 hasn't really seen any major changes in 10 years the current panda is 6 years old. The only new car to the normal fiat line up is the tipo which I'd argue is no real competition to say a Vauxhall Astra. The the 500L and 500x are the most recent cars. Of them only the 500x is an attractive option but when put beside its competitors the price is high and the quality isn't as good

My Punto is between 10 and 11 years old...Took less than a year for the steering sensor to go crazy. Thank God, the cars still does not leak , but you never know... I have regular problem with the radio - though memorized/saved from time to time the stations disappear mysteriously. And no one seems to know why - i have changed so far at least 5 different audio systems and they still seem to disappear. If you like Fiat and you`re used to it - why change it ( you know how to deal with the car - problems, solutions, ways to upgrade it). If you want to try something new - ok. I own Kia Picanto and it does have some problems too.

Yes, I fully intend to stick with Fiat for as many car changes as I possibly can. I've had my current 1 nearly 3 years now, (bought when it was 6 years old,) and I'm still immensely satisfied with it, and hope to be able to keep it until it's 15 years old.

I have a 1.6 punto, it's great. It is as reliable as most cars I've had, I used to run mk2 golfs and once the weak parts are changed then they great, my puntos no different, change the bits as required and over service it and it has been great, I am still of the mindset of buy a car and keep it once you own it I am sure the overall cost is less than changing every few years
