Just a general question-has anyone that found a tyre make/model change has improved ride comfort?Seems to be very little help on the internet on this aspect of motoring.

Yes.
Different brand tyres will feel different. But a lot will depend on the model, as one brand of tyre may work well on a Panda, but be rubbish on a Punto.
Post the question in the relevant forum for your model and let others give their recommendations and experiences.

As an example, my Panda runs 155/80 13. The Continental tyres that were on it when I bought it were a little noisier and less grippy than expected. Surprising for a good brand, but might be due to age too. The fronts have been replaced with Vredestein and are quieter, softer ride and grip better.

However, raising the pressures has also made a significant difference.
Go to the website for your tyre manufacturer. Try to find, often well hidden, their listing for pressure recommendations. Most of the good brands will have this.
Both Continental and Vredestein show higher pressures than Fiat give in the handbook. The higher pressures make a significant difference, with better grip, quieter running, and surprisingly, a more comfortable ride.

There are a few things that influence comfort, of course, but I would say tyres are the main concern. If you want to know more about the relationship between tyres and comfort, you should try looking at how driving comfort is tested - that should highlight what areas matter.

The different tread blocks and grooves all matter. So, with that in mind, are you driving on summer, winter or all-seasons?

Back in 2001 I bought a new Audi A4 1.9 TDI with Bridgestone Potenza tyres. They were great and lasted 22000 miles. Grip and handling were well up to the heavy diesel car and noise levels were low.

The new tyres ended up being Goodyear Eagle F1s because the supplier goofed. They gripped well but were noisy, harsh and very not low cost.

So watch out. Do your homework and don't let tyre suppliers F you over with tyres you don't want.
