If you won the lottery.. Would you keep your Fiat?

Ive just sold my punto and the only new fiat I would consider if I won the lottery is the new 500x, however if you're a lottery winner and can buy just about anything then why would you limit yourself to the 500x when you could buy a top end evoke, an X3, Porsche maccan or Mercedes ML, so as much as I like the 500x I'd probably go for something else if I was going to buy a car like that. I'd be much more inclined to buy a new Ferrari or Lamborghini than a 4x4 of any description though

Because not everybody wants to show off their financial status, but rather buy a good looking modest car instead of a boring heavyweight with a posh badge...

The 500X is pretty much the only SUV I kinda like anyways...
I simply don't get the concept SUV: they never go off road and would get stuck if they did, their handling on road is worse than a normal wagon, they're not as practical as an MPV...

This thing comes out this year it's over priced, completely impractical and never going to see a minutes off roading in its life but given the massive success of the hard top version, it's sure to sell by the truck load, why? Because there are plenty of people who will buy an expensive impractical and inappropriate car, just because they like it. And if they can afford to pay the bills, why not ?

Money and taste rarely go together...

With money being no object, what are you going to go out and buy ?

Admittedly I wouldn't buy the evoke cabriolet (though I would have a standard Range Rover in the garage) but it's an example of what people want, it's in demand and that's why landrover are putting it into production.

So put your money where your mouth is, what are you going to buy with your lottery winnings

I'd have a DB9, an 8C Competizione and a Dino 246 GT, for the fact that they're pure pieces of art. My everyday car would be my Grande, albeit completely restored.

Like I said in my first post, there's a reason I ordered a well equipped Doblo SX T-Jet (still waiting impatiently...) and I honestly bought it because it was the car I wanted.

If I'd have bought a car with only my sensible hat on, I would have bought a Dacia Dokker and not even consider the Doblo because it's more expensive, even in poverty spec.

If money was no object at all, I'd still have ordered a Doblo, but probably a full-option Maxi/XL with a lot of customisation instead of a well equipped "small" one...
...and a collection of other, more sporty Italian cars, and an Aston, and a Rolls with chauffeur, why not...

If I would be in the financial situation I could afford 1 or 2 "premium" cars, I really wouldn't bother buying one of those SUV monstrosities, they're such a waste of money and a car is the worst thing to splurge money on if you want to climb up in life financially, especially if the cheaper alternatives aren't really worse in everything that matters...

If I won the lottery, and was able to acquire a mahoosive building, it would just be full of alsorts of everyday cars that I like, so as to save them from the scrapyards. :)

And the Evoque, X3 and ML are all lemons, don't know about the Maccan (but who buys a Porsche anyways?), so the 500X is probably the safest bet if you actually want to rely on it getting you somewhere, looks better too...

Not at all, I'm merely unimpressed by flashiness, and much prefer affordable style for the masses/discretion.

I suspect that says more about your own self esteem than anything else.

I'm not sure why the evoke,x3 and ML are all lemons but given that the 500x uses technology from the evoke it doesn't bode well for the 500x. Porsche have sold about 5k of the macan in the last year and given the cheapest model is more that twice the price of the top end 500x much more money has been spent on the Porsche than the 500x, as for looks, well if your opinion is your doblo looks better than a Porsche we can rule out your artistic eye. Looks are far to an objective subject when it comes to cars, but it has to be pointed out the only car to ever be exhibited in the louvre was the Range Rover

Hell yes, give me all the Kei cars!

I'd kinda go with that, but I'd err towards the iconic cars, the cool tiny sports cars.

Just look up the issues with these cars, I'm not talking about a defective radio or a loose screw here...

I don't know where you get that the 500X shares anything with the EvoQUE, it only shares a lot with other Fiat models, and with it's brother the Jeep Renegade, so as long as you don't get the 9-speed auto, you're better off than with the obnoxiously flashy expensive bragmobiles.

And as I said before, who buys a Porsche... There are a lot of people out there who buy a car for the badge. The Porsche SUV is an excellent car for a guy with more money than taste going trough his mid life crisis, desperately wanting that bragbadge but also needs a car that fits his kids, dog, golfbag and he can get in and out of without needing assistance, all while still being cheaper than a proper SUV + proper sportscar.

By the way, the Range Rover at the Louvres is a proper Range Rover, the one that brings excellent off-road capabilities, practicality and luxury in an understated stylish package and is actually worth its money... Not some cheaply made basic 13 in a dozen SUV designed by a teenager like the EvoQUe.

Apart from regular complaints from evoke owners that the fit of things isn't aways great, I'm not seeing a huge amount of problems that would concern me. The ML has been around 20 years so yeah there are bound to be models which have big problems getting on in years. The X3 is the same its been around a while to problems crop up. The evoke is still quite a new car the oldest ones being 4-5 years and there really are not the huge problems you're implying.

The 500x is a nice little car but it doesn't go to the same school as the big boys, they are not packed with the same level of technology and more to the point haven't even been around a year yet so you can't possibly comment on reliability, what the 500x does do is compete in a very full market sector, of Nissan, ford, Vauxhall, mini, Subaru, Mazda, all of which provide high levels of equipment and reliability, the only reason to pick the fiat in the market is brand loyalty and the looks of the car, and as already pointed out looks are very subjective.

fiat bought the 9 speed auto and fitted to the 4x4 models.... It's the same gear box as is in the evoke. So what you're saying your ok with the 500x as long as you don't buy the 4x4 model and you stick to the cheap low equipment cars, taking your comparison to the top end luxury small suv even further away. Why bother at all with the 500x in that case and not just buy a Dacia...... In fact why didn't you buy the Dacia ? Because you wanted something a bit more flash.

I love the term "more money than sense" it's often used by people who don't understand finances. Simply put if you £100,000 a year coming in and after paying all your bills and expenses put some in savings etc, and you still have £3000 a month unspent, do you sit on it? Let it pile up even more along side your savings? Or do you treat yourself to something you want? Something with a bit of luxury and prestige badge on the bonnet ? I'd never begrudge anyone having something expensive and flashy they have worked hard for, to do so seems jealous and bitter to me, it says more about you than the person in the Porsche or Range Rover or Ferrari.

The Range Rover in the louvre was the original beam axel, no roll bars model with a v8 petrol and luxury including power steering a velour seats, a modern day panda 4x4 would leave it behind in an off road event and has 10 times the luxury. Since then the world moved on. And all Range Rover models design even now harks back to the styling of the original.

If I won the lottery would I go out and buy any of the cars? No but I would go and drive them all and see what I liked, because unless you're in a position to actually go and do that you're not in any position to criticise any of them, based on anything other that your dislike for something big and flashy, forgetting that big and flashing can also mean a damn good car.

How do you work that out, lol? Because I have no desire to drive around in a vulgar, showy car, that means I have no self esteem?

No because you'd rather spend your lottery winnings on a huge building and fill it with cheap old rubbish cars, costing an absolute fortune to do, than buy a couple of really nice quality cars to enjoy and cherish, which you could keep in a small heated garage.

There is far more to life than cars and without financial constraints I'd spend my time traveling and enjoying life, not sat in a barn full of tat like some sort of motoring gollum polishing an old corsa and repeating the mantra "my precious"

So you imply that 9-speed gearbox (which comes with its issues) is designed and built by Land Rover?
That and not even spelling the names of the cars you're defending properly?

Yeah, I'm leaving this "discussion"...

What a jealous bitch with low self-esteem I must be when you can literally buy a brand new car with 4 rings or a star on the grille for the money I spent on a Doblo without a bragbadge, huh?
