As its based on the MX-5 it should drive well but the Mazda looks a lot nicer so I can't see a reason to have the Fiat unless its a lot cheaper.

Oh I love it! I love its styling, really harks back to the 124 Spider from 50 years ago. For me the styling actually works better than the MX-5.

I think I do but I saw a new MX5 in the flesh tonight and it's really nice but I love the original 124 and like the homage to it in this one. If it's a badge engineering thing I don't know why you wouldn't just use the Mazda engine though.

I've no problem with the development sharing with Mazda and although theres the obvious bonnet humps from the original - they could've been a bit more imaginative with the rest of it. Front and interior are nice but its tooooo MX5 from everywhere else in my eye.
Ironic really that way back when the X1/9 ceased production just as the MX5 was launched - we're now back in the 2 seat sportscar market by this...........

I like both this and the MX5. I've seen the new MX5 in the flesh and it is awesome.

I like this though. It looks fun. And Italian.

Not too sure no the vents though.

I love it :) it's not the best looker at the front but on the whole it looks great. I like the whole idea too of the front engine, rear drive layout just like classic sports cars of old plus it's nice to see fiat making something that doesn't have 500 written on the back. Just hope it sells well in the US as it'll give the company a real boost

I must admit, I'm surprised they haven't given us a desperately needed new Punto before the 124, to be honest.

Because this is very much cheaper to develop than a brand new Punto.
Since it's mechanical identical to the MX-5 (except for the engine) and the interior is also pretty much MX-5, Fiat hasn't had to do anything really, just pay Mazda or swap for something else.

Fair enough. Wouldn't a new Punto potentially sell far more units, thus returning the investment and increasing the Fiat presence though?

Most likely, but the 124 can perhaps give a quick in-flow of cash.
I'm sure they are working on a Punto replacement though, as it's one of the big sellers.

Maybe. The Punto used to be a big seller, sadly though, certainly in the UK, people aren't buying the current model any more. A shame, really.

I think that's because it mainly the same as the Grande Punto from 2006.
There hasn't been that much change to it, just a few facelifts.

What they need is a brand new Punto, with new design and new technology.
