I've added the photos of my car.

By looking it at, will it be an insurance write off? This was a 15mph crash. Car spun out of control on oil on the road and mounted the roundabout and hit the signs.

Quick replies will be the best.

The car started up right away when the recovery truck took it, it wasn't leaking or anything.

YES - "beyond economic repair" for insurance

unrepairable - NO = but would cost as much in new parts and garage labour rates as it's trade value,

either source the parts and fix it yourself,
or take the insurance companies payout;)

If it is, just let it go and chalk it up to experience. Yes, you may be able to do it yourself but the fact you have to ask suggests limited mechanical knowledge - no offence - plus it will be a Cat c which I personally wouldn't touch because there's so many straight ones about it isn't worth it.

Hey, cars a write off! £4508 in damage. Along the underneath of the car was cracked and the roof would need complete replacing!

Thanks for all your replies!

You'll struggle to argue that it's the councils fault for there being oil on the road, as mentioned you'll probably have to just chalk it up to experience and get yourself a new car with the insurance money

Council or roads agency will only be found responsible if it's been reported into them prior to the accident same with pot holes but only become responsible for them 24hrs after they have been reported in.

Wow, the UK must be awesome.

In the USA, it doesn't matter whose fault that would be - it's considered a road hazard, and basically "your own fault" for hitting it. Potholes go unrepaired for ages. The only time you can collect damages from the guilty party on a road hazard is if you have VIDEO of something coming off of the vehicle in front of you, such as if a truck has a blowout and the tread hits your car. In that case, even, you have to have clear video. It's NEVER the municipality's fault either, no matter how bad the road is. Car fell into a sinkhole? Too bad, so sad, hope you had comprehensive insurance!

Aha it might sound it but it's not. We have potholes that have lasted about six months near me. When I've been out to America your roads have always seemed a thousand times better than ours are! :yum:

Guess it's the same everywhere, but councils and insurers still try to worm out of paying up if they can!

Guess it depends on where you go. In my area, the roads are terrible. They beat up my Abarth pretty hard, sometimes I just have to go a different way.

Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the OP's thread. I would hate to have a car totaled due to a road hazard!

Roads will get worse here due to cut backs and documentary on TV a few years ago showed that the councils would only resurface some roads out in the cuds once every 125yrs:eek:.

I work for a utility that digs the roads and footpaths up and some are in a shcoking state we dug out a 300mm wide track and have had to reinstate up to 1.4mtrs of the footpath as the council havent maintained them well enough
