Hi

My friend has a 1.2 16v punto that's been led up in a barn for many years.

I wouldn't mind the engine etc to do a 16v swap on my cinq but he seems to think the ECU has had it as its been sat for so long and he will need the brown/red key to sort it which he doesn't have.

Is this correct?

Thanks

Nath

I should imagine it will be OK, the immo code is held in the main fusebox but I guess you will have to sync the ECU to recognise the Cinq immo code.

Hi,
Modern ECU's hold immobiliser data in a type of memory called EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). This is non-volatile i.e. does loose data when the power goes off. It does not use batteries (like the "CMOS" in personal computers) so leaving the ECU off for a long time will NOT cause loss of immobiliser information. Of course, other components in the ECU could fail. Capacitors are a possible problem area as is corrosion in general.

Oh that's interesting! Thanks for that!

Maybe the 16v conversion might be happening!
