simple..........Dont touch the ECU.
if you feck about with that, then other components arent designed to "Keep-up" with it.

If you are even considering touching you engine, do it all at once.

not quite true, an engine is a machine, all engines have a safety margin built into them, they may only run to 75-80% of there full potential, this is pretty much true of any component. The reason being? reliabilty, drivability, emmisions, fuel consumtion, the list goes on.
Any car can be tuned, the fastest way is usually the ecu. You fiat owners are lucky, the magneli system is not 'locked' like mems 2 is and can be remapped. THe ecu holds vital information in the form of 'look up tables' or maps, the map can be adjusted to give optimum performace, to a point, and as such, always has a side effect on something else ie. fuel consumption, life of engine.

These chips that everyone is refeering to are a modification. They fit between the iacv valve which tells the engine thats its a cold day, so, the ecu compensates, and fires more fuel in. More fuel = bore wash = minimum oil on the liners = rapid wear of liners (is the fire engine wet or dry??)

This was a popular mod in the eightees (not that i was drving then lol!) but the chips sold on ebay may be the wrong rating of resistor.

These are a total waste of money, and should be steered well clear of.

i fitted one of these to a mates old fiesta, went like a rocket for about 2 mins then cut out completely, it was quite funny him having a cooker nob attached to a wire coming from the engine bay, after the five mins of messing we binned it. save up, get your car tuned properly, ofr buy a faster car, then get that tuned properly(y)

hi new user on this forum i bought my first car on sunday a 1.4 bravo S :) was lookin at the mk1 punto until i saw a bright
yellow one pull up next to me at the lights looked like crap sounded like crap. why do this to a car
but im happy with my bravo lookin at gettin rear lights tho any ideas :)

This is a very informative thread, telling users not to waste money on these so called gimmicks that make your car run better, or use less fuel.

So why does the forum front page have a massive banner at the top telling us to buy plans that can DOUBLE EVERY CARS MPG, THE SECRET PLANS THAT 'THEY' WANT BANNED.

Come on, why the double standards?

Or has someone actually bought the plans, if so, do a write up and stick it in the guides section. :bang:

And who are 'they', these secret people that stalk us, making sure we don't get more miles per gallon. We must be told who they are

Those 'ads' are provided from googleads and Fiatforum have very little / no control over what ad's are displayed as they are generated from the pages content.

Hi all,

joined in this thread as I posted a request for this kind of info in the Scudo (van section) without first checking for other similar posts :bang:

Anyway, the latest eBay ads include a German company selling these power boosters and the feedback seems to tell its own story.

I realise the 'resistor-in-a-box' fiddle for what it is but also appreciate that throttle adjustments to reduce sooting and/or smooth out surges by adjustment (digitally) is equally feasible. Such a system is proposed by these German sellers and I'm contemplating a purchase.

If anyone has experience of this particular system I'd be pleased to hear their results.

I'm positive such systems CAN work. I'm an electronics engineer by trade and know the difference between simple resistor 'fiddles' and proper digital adaptation so there must be a compromise somewhere????

and, since I've now exceeded the 5-post-rule for web links :D, here is the offending (possibly) article....
