Re: Fiat and Ford work together?!

Ford need a replacement for the abysmal yet good selling Ka (probably not so bad with the Zetec engine), and Fiat wouldn't mind some help with the Trepuino (sp?), or other small car to fit in under the Grand Punto, alongside the Panda.

I guess Ford have been buying and collaborating with larger car firms, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo, Land Rover, but are lacking the ability to produce a good looking, functional, economical city car. Team up with Fiat who are struggling, who have the know how and it could help them. Ford probably see the MJTD as well, and like it. Fiat have some great technology. For Fiat, the partnership should get them more resources and capacity to build good little cars out for little money, and see them sell.

Re: Fiat and Ford Alliance

OMFG!!!! *shocked*

Ford said the plans were for two new vehicles - a new Fiat Cinquecento and a replacement for the Ford Ka.

Do you think this will be the trepi?

Nice one fiat!

joe (delighted!)

Re: Fiat and Ford Alliance

The new cinquecento must be the trepiuno.

They'd be silly not to massproduce that concept.

Re: Fiat and Ford Alliance

Is it such a bad thing? Fiat have no choice but to save money and if it means that in 25 years we can still buy an Italian Fiat then that's got to be good. Even if the cars share platforms Fiat can tweak it so it actually handles like a Fiat. As long as they don't use bloody Ford engines...

Re: Fiat and Ford Alliance

Yup steve, its all good :D

I am really hoping this means the trepi goes ahead....

EDIT- forgot to add, the trepiuno was going to share the panda platform aswell ;)

Steve is going to drive a ford!

Ford's bunch of diesels aren't too bad are they, still, i bet they nick the MJTDs.

Re: Fiat and Ford Alliance

I didn't say that did i? If they are working together, the cars will be ford/fiat, just like the ulysse is a french car mainly.

If it helps Fiat's survival, it can't be a bad thing, as serin's link shows us, Fiat showed profit this year but only because of the $1billion payment from GM.

What I meant about the MJTDs is that Ford will come away from this venture using "mjdt" and have adverts about how great their deisels are ;)

Ford currently use the PSA (Peugeot Citroen) 'HDi' engines (1.4, 1.6 and 2.0) and re-badge them as TDCi ;)

In the future they might use the m-jet engines but there is nothing wrong with that.

Fiat might use the smaller Yamaha developed Zetec SE engines from the Fester (1.25 and 1.4) in it's smaller cars, which would be no bad thing as they are brilliant motors.

nowadays collaborating is not a surprise. everyone does it for survival.

Eg. Psa-toyota, psa Fiat, etc.

so its all good.

lol, never knew the Ford engines were the Hdis!

HEre is a question, the engines in the renault traffics/Vauxhall whatever, are they Renault dcis or 'vauxhall' (aka Fiat) jtds? I suppose I could go compare the ccs, will do if nobody knows the answer :)

Oh bugger, Fiat spend years getting the rust eradicated and then go in with Mr rust himself... Ford. Cant see what their getting out of it yet, if the Trepi is built in Poland on Panda platform etc, and the new Ka likewise, what do Fiat get from Ford? Is it cash!? Oh well, better than GM! Must admit I was scared they would go in with PSA totally!
