Just wondered if anyone had any idea about this...

Why is it that you don't see many high mileage Fiats? I had a look on autotrader etc just out of interest to see the prices Fiats go at with high mileage and also see how durable Fiat cars are (being a Fiat newbie) but there are very few modern models with high mileage...

If you look at other manufacturers there are numerous cars still in production (less than 5 years old) with high mileage (prob ex company cars etc) however with Fiat any cars with over 100k miles are the older models, not many Grande Puntos, Bravo's.

Are Fiat's built to last??

You kinda answered your own question. Other brands are used as hire and company cars, hence big mileage. Fiats aren't used as much by them, so will be more privately owned cars on the market, so lower mileage.
Its not necessarily a sign of weaknesses or faults, just a different consumer base.

I had a Punto Mk2 from 2000 that had 306000 Km/190200 miles on it when it quit running. Both myself and the only other owner had a long distance motorway commute.

I did 150000Km/93225 miles on a 2005 Idea bought new and totalled a few months before it's third birthday.

My friend has a 2000 Marea that he drives everyday and its got 165000 Km/102500 miles.

The new Qubo I bought last October now has 25500 Km/15848 miles. Next week I'm driving to Hamburg, Germany and beyond for a few days. I think I'll stop and eat a hamburger or two in Hamburg along the way since I'll be there anyway.

Good maintenance is the key to longevity...

I had a Marea as a company car a few years ago and everyone stopped laughing when it proved more reliable than the Mondeo's and the Vectra's on the fleet. The company we leased the cars from predominantly dealt in prestige brands - BM, Bentley, Merc, Porsche. After 60k in 18 months, he took it of me and leased it to a woman in Scotland for a further year. He admitted that he was so impressed that he would put Fiat on his vehicle list.

As for now, my MW has 95k on the clock. The only issue has been weak front suspension components - drop links and front springs. This probably has more to do with the Third World Roads we have in Northants then general reliability problems. It doesn't smoke, the MPG averages 55 in the summer and the body work is still good. Fiat is a well kept secret and that's good for exclusivity and purchasing used
