Please, please, can anyone help me?

I have bought an automatic Fiat Punto Sporting Speedgear (2002 plate). I
have been given 1 blue key. The car manual says I should have two blue keys (one being a 'remote') plus a key code card which is essential if I require
a duplicate key at any time.

Of course, I require more than one key as a safeguard.

I have not been given a key code card - and therefore I cannot get a duplicate key! Apparently the key code card is also essential
for 'emergency start-up' (can't say I understand what this means though, can anyone advise?).

The car dealer who sold the car to me knows the previous owner and will speak to him when he gets back from holiday to attempt to obtain this
but he is not hopeful.

Therefore, can anyone tell me, how do I go about getting more keys cut, and how is the code required for 'emergency start up' (and what does it actually mean?).

I really hope you can help; I love my new car but I've been so upset thinking if I lose my one and only key I'll be in deep trouble. It's taking away the enjoyment of owning a new car :(

the code card will be a 4 or 5 digit number it will be used for emergency start up if the car immobilses itself, you should see a flashing orange symbol on you dash saying CODE - this normally comes on and goes off after about 2 seconds on startup, if it stays on or flashes continusly then something is wrong

the code is easily available from fiat, just give them the car details and a few security details and within a few days you will get your code

the emergency start up is a funny procedure which involves the counting of flashes, pushing of pedels and turning of keys, well this is the procedure for a seicento, your punto might be different, it should explain it better in your manual

a spare key and code card should be ordered sooner rather than later, as you dont want to be kept waiting

Gaz, this is really helpful thank you! :) When you say I should contact Fiat, do you mean any Fiat dealer or by telephone to Fiat Customer Services?

Many thanks

i managed to do it over the phone as my fiat dealer at the time was an hour away and i had no chance of getting there, it required a little bit of extra hassle, i.e faxing my documents to them, then waiting for a fax back with the code - this took about a week in total

any fiat dealer should be able to help you as they actually send off to italy for the code, cause i was told the dealers arent allowed to keep the code for security purposes

customer services may be able to advise, but i would imagine they would tell you to contact your local dealer

they will charge you for the code, but that entirely upto the dealer you choose, i paid £15 for mine but i know that others have just had to pay £3

OK that sounds hopeful as I have a Fiat dealer not 2 miles from me. Thank you so much for your assistance! It's a weight off my mind.
