Do the heaters/air con still work when the car auto switches off its engine?

Supposedly!
However I find it so temperamental that usually if you have the aircon/heater on the “start stop” will be “unavailable” the bulk of the time anyway.
It’s apparently such a common problem that the salesman even told me about it before I ordered my car.

Another problem that a lot of people in the Evo section have encountered is that when you engage reverse the “start stop” will then not function either.
I just wish you could set the damn thing to off by default. :(

That if you have the aircon on or the heater turned up the “start stop” will not function correctly and show the “start stop unavailable” message.

thats because due to certain parameters its not available.

(

why would you want stop/start in reverse?

I'm sure there is a list of times when stop/start will not function (for logical/safety reasons) in the handbook or on the fiat.com site. If not let me know & i'll look it out.

Sorry I didn’t explain that very well, the reverse issue is apparently: When “start stop” is engaged and you then reverse your car when you drive your car forward again the “start stop” function will no longer work.
To be honest I just switch it off every time I get in the car now… saves embarrassment in the long run.
I have not had the reverse problem happen with my car that I’ve noticed, although as I said I now drive with the function off.
A lot of people in the Evo section apparently get the issue though.
With mine I would just keep getting “Start Stop Unavailable” showing out of the blue for no apparent reason, when I took it back to the dealership they said it was something to do with the gears and they reset something. Still happens though and I got fed up with the embarrassment at traffic lights etc.

To answer your question Dave I didn’t check, wouldn’t have made any difference though as I wanted the car and you cannot purchase the car without “Start Stop”

I think the reverse issue was covered in the 500 section about this, cant remember the outcome so will have to look it up.

Stop/start is actually very good (if you stall the car just press clutch, no messing about with key etc:)) and although I dont have this feature I come across and use it almost daily.

“Start Stop” is indeed a very good idea I can’t argue with that, my issue is simply with the constant & sudden unavailability of it. Maybe if I persevered more but I have just lost confidence in it, therefore I simply switch it off now as that’s easier, if however I forget to switch it off maybe coincidentally that’s when it plays up.
Have you come across it on the Evo? I have never looked at the 500 section for issues with “start stop” to be honest, I do know that out of the small number of Evo owners on the forum there seems to be a fair amount that have had issues with it, does the “Start Stop” system differ slightly on the Evo to other models?

Can you not disengage it then? The last thing I want is for the engine, and therefore the heaters/air con to cease on a freezing cold winter morning, or red hot summers day! Even if it is for a few seconds, I'd imagine that would get quite annoying.

I'm due to pick up my evo next week or so, and I've heard some brilliant things about the start/stop feature, but at the moment it seems to be causing more hassle than good...

Never had a stop/start issue with the Evo and one issue with it one the 500 which was quickly sorted (within minutes) however the customer came back straight away saying it wasn't working:confused: I went for test drive to show her how the system operates and when it does/does not operate and she was over the moon that it worked 100% and the fact someone actually spent time explaining the workings to her.

I take it you work with Fiat then?!... just a shame that my local Fiat Dealership wasn’t as helpful or knowledgeable as yourself on the matter.
What are the common situations that would cause “Start Stop” to suddenly start showing the “Start Stop unavailable” on the display?

My Hill Assist doesn't work when the stop start works. I'm constantly rolling backwards whilst I wait for the engine to start up.
As I have the duologic transmission I can't hold the break abs accelerate at the same time.
I hand my 500C serviced last week and they said that its normal.
Dangerous and costly if I roll into the car behind.

You not have a handbrake? (Might be a daft question never driven an auto).

Generally you'd hold your foot on the brake put the clutch in and the engine will start up. Select the gear and as you bring your foot up on the clutch release the brake and give it a little gas. You should then pull nicely up the hill without rolling back and without the need for hill hold features, however in this instance the hill hold should still hold the car until you start moving forwards or for a few seconds.

If you roll back into the car behind this would be entirely your fault and nothing to do with any features of the car.

Entirely correct...expect it's a dualogic so the car controls the clutch. From the post it would appear you start the engine by pressing the throttle, but the hill holder disengages before the engine has started and the clutch has engaged. Hence my question regards a parking/handbrake to see if that could be used to hold the car during the process.

Dunno if the car refuses to start if you left foot brake.
