Hello,

following on from my long saga with having to upgrade my entire abs system to the Coupe system i now cannot get it to function.

before i installed the loom i had to solder in the marea connector to be able to interface with the car but i'm not going to post the changes i made as i would like a fresh look on it.

is anyone able to get their head around what is required to get the system up and running in the Marea?

Thank you!

oh goody, something to wake me up on a monday :D
i feel a long post coming.

if you've fit the entire coupe loom and associated parts then the only places where you would have joined the wires is at the wheel sensors and the lives and earths. these joins are what we call the interfaces. you need to check they have all been done correctly.

lets go through and see where the potential for error is in these interfaces.

first thing i notice on the diags is that the wheel sensors are positioned in opposite ways. on the marea diag the input and output wires on each sensor are on opposite sides to the input and output wires on the coupe diag. if you didnt notice that then all your wheel sensor wiring would be backward.

for example, sensor 80 at top right of coupe diag has the input wire or the right (cant read colour as its too blurry), but on the marea diag its on the left. you can tell which side is which by looking inside the sensor symbol to see that one side has a straight line going to the top of the indictor, and the other has a short line coming form the bottom of the inductor. these differences on the diags can be misleading, so its always important to make sure your circuits flow the correct way (even though an inductive sensor like the wheel sensors).

next on the list is the lives. on the marea there are 3 loves going to the controller, all from a common single live (form the 60a ABS sytem fuse). on the coupe this same fuse is used, but it only splits into 2 lives for the controller. this means the only point you can join the coupe loom to the marea's fused power supply is where the coupe has joined its 2 lives into 1. that single live must be joined to the fuse's live. if you dont do it like that you can end up with only 1 of the 2 lives getting a signal.

there are also lives for other things. on the marea we see one live going from a 40a fuse in the fisebox down to the part numbered 12. this also happens on the coupe, so you would join the coupe's live wire to the car's output from that same 40a fuse. however the coupe also has a second fused live from a 60a fuse in the fusebox. this live goes to the part numbered 96 on the diag. obviously this fuse and live wil be missing on the marea, so you would need to install it sperately and then connect it to the coupe loom.

ok, that leaves the earthing situation. on the marea there are 2 wires (pjns 9 and 27) that come out of the controller and join to a single earth point. on the coupe this is different, pin 19 is connected ot that earth, but there is also the addition of the earth wire from the part numbered 6. this part's black wire must be joined to the controller earth from pin19, and then both sent direct to a chassis earth.

another earth issue is the coupe's controller has a second seperate earth point for its pin16 wire. this is not present on the marea. obviously your coupe loom will have that wire, so all you need to do is earth it somewhere. to be safe, make it a seperate point the other earth (as it would be on the coupe).

thats the interfaces covered. since you're fitting a complete coupe ABS system the internal aspects dont matter as long as you have every single part on the coupe diag fitted to your car and connected to the coupe loom as it should be. check that is true by doing a quick component count and location check, ticking each off as you do (use the position diag from the manual).

thanks Jug, i will give it a proper read tonight when i get home (y)

its worth mentioning now that i have a complete coupe ABS system, all the sensors, abs wheels, electrics, pump, ecu are all from the coupe.

i even had to change the rear arms to suite the coupe sensors!

another thing to note is that although i have a coupe engine loom and ABS loom the car loom is still the Marea, i 'think' the problem may lie with the Coupe using a double relay setup on the system but i really need a fresh pair of eyes to try and help me see where i'm going wrong.

Thanks again,
Ry

in that case you can ignore the wheel sensor issue previously highlighted

on the diag i can see only 1 relay (numbered 103). i assume you have taken that relay from the coupe? really you need to take everything to be sure you havent missed any differences. on the diags that relay is missing on the marea.

it makes life difficult for me not having the legend to explain what each number is for. i can logically guess most, but not all.

if you have installed a "complete coupe ABS system" then everything on the diagram will have been replaced/fitted, or at least checked to see if it exactly the same on both. you need to go through the whole list of everything on the diag. some seemingly pointless difference can make all the difference.
