i have a 1.6 16v stilo dyn.ive been told my flexi has gone an my back box muffler is dead to ive been quoted £209 for the whole exhuast i know i can get the cheaper on line an fit my self or get someone to do the job for me.can anyone give me an idea on where i can get the parts i need an a rough idea on wot to do.

go to your local partco or unipart and they should have the parts in stock. i would expect the backbox to cost £45 and the middle pipe to cost £70. you will also need a gasket to go between the manifold and middle pipe, this should cost £1, and finaly a clamp to join the middle and back box costing another £1.50.

so total cost is approx £117.50.

thankfully the 1.6 stilo exhaust is relatively easy to fit. first you need to jack up the rear and then remove the clamp holding the backbox to the middle pipe, then pop the rubber hanger off the 2 rods on the backbox, then you can rotate/wiggle the backbox to free it from the middle pipe. once free you can pull it out from the rear.

next you need to remove the bolts holding the middle pipe to the front pipe. this is at the front of the car so you need to jack the front up. once these bolts are removed there are only 2 rubber hangers holding the middle pipe to the car. pop the rubber hangers off and the exhaust is free. be careful it does not pull the handbrake cables down, as they often go under the exhaust. you may need to loosen the handbrake cables from their clips to move them out the way.

refitting is a reversal of the removal procedure.

rusty bolts and clamps are never much fun, especially when you're lying on your back, but you can do it.
