Hi all, I've had an intermittent fault on my 2004 PANDA. The OBD faoult code is U1601, the ABS and Power Steering warning indicators come on along with the MIL light and the Speedo and Tacho stop working.
I found an Italian site that listed a description for this code which was in Italian but translated said "Poor Wiring Conection". This obviously related to the CAN BUS as other listings refer to Can Bus Problem.
Yesterday the fault was would not go so I took out theinstrument pod and dis/reconected the plug. The fault was immediately gone and the car worked ok.
Is it likely that I have fixed the bad connection on the Can Bus A or B wires between the Body Computer and the Instrument Panel Node or has it just gone away again?
If you think this has fixed it then this may be of use to other members with similar problems. Regards ~ Skydome

u1601 is intermittent can bus failure. it is often caused by a loose connector (same as most problems on most fiats tbh).

if the problem comes back then you tried the wrong connector.
it is most often the connector on the body computer, or as fiat call it the "multi relay/timer unit".

Thanks Jug for your advice but all the connectors have now been checked and remade and the fault has come back. One of the fault descriptions for U1601 by Fiat is ABS Control Unit Side Resistance Not Compliant, but I do not know exactly what that means. Rgards ~ Chris (Skydome)

The answer to my U1601 Fault was a bad connection on the C-CAN line on the Shorting Link Connector D097 which is Tyrapped on top of the bracket that houses the brake LHD to RHD linkage up in the Passengers Footwell (UK). The C-CAN line is the comms line that connects all the nodes & the D097 Shorting Link is link that configures the different Nodes.
For example: linking out the Robotised Gearbox if there isn't one as on a Manual Car.
I hope this is useful to someone as it took me 6 months to find.
D097 is very well hidden.

Can anyone help with a picture, as I am looking for it in my car? Thanks
