a few people are having problems getting info from stilo jtd's regardless of age and i was just wondering if other jtd owners have/had the same issue. or does anyone know why the jtd engine wont work with this type of equipment?

so any punto, bravo, multipla etc. owners had any success or failure trying the above? if yes or no please list the set up you have tried. there has to be a specific reason and then we can start looking at solving it.

diesels didnt have to be eobd compliant until 2004, so up until 2004 the JTD used fiat's own protocol, same as petrol models prior to 2001. you can still use the standard interface for diagnostics but you need software capable of using the fiat protocol, anything else wont be able to communicate with the ecu.

check your build date, if it is before april 2004 then you cant guarantee eobd compatibility, after that it must be compatible by law so failure to communicate would be due to a different problem (e.g. your interface)

I'm not convinced by Alfa JTD is OBD compliant - I simulated an error, the engine warning light was on but the reader didn't pickup an error code. I just plugged my wifes 2004 C4 diesel in because of a EGR error and her's is.

No idea, it's a late 2004 facelift model but that doesn't mean it wasn't build before the car became ODB compliant. Strangly it connects but when the engine light (me pulling a senor lead) was on it didn't read an error.

it can take a few "drive cycles" before a fault code is recorded in ecu, unplug the sensor then drive for a few journeys and it should record a fault code.

a june05 model legally must be eobd compliant, if your car cant communicate there is either a fault on your car (unlikely when other owners report same problem) or fiat are very naughty. i'd be very interested to see how this turns out. which ecu is fitted to your car?
