Auto Plus: Fiat 500 is CAR OF THE YEAR!!!

Readers of the French car magazine Auto Plus have elected the Fiat 500 as the 2008 Car of the Year! I don't knoww how big this is in the overall scheme of things, but Auto Plus is part of a big automotive publishing group that has car magazines in many European countires. I'm sure the other mags in the group are doing the same thing and am waiting to see if the 500 will also be the group champion as well.

the 500 is european car of the year 2008 with 385 points.

that includes the following mags:
Auto (Italy)
Autocar (UK)
Autopista (Spain)
Autovisie (Netherlands)
L'Automobile Magazine (France)
Stern (Germany)
Vi Bilgare (Sweden)

so that means a handful of journalist preffered the gifts they got from fiat again this year.

the mazda2 (325 points) came second and the mondeo (202 points) came 3rd.


this is fiat's 9th victory, 12th if you include alfa and lancia. that is far more than any other car maker.

yeah bribes are always the most effective gift.

If it was all down to money the Mondeo would have won.

It was a foregone conclusion the 500 was going to win this year. It is in no way the 'best' car out of all the entrants, but is the most anticipated and the one that has the most media coverage.

Apart from the winning manufacturer being able to use the award in their advertising, does being Car of the Year actually mean anything?
