This is for a Cinq but will apply to all Fiats/ cars.

Having recently removed my hubs to change the gearbox, I noticed that one of the lower suspension arm/ track control arm ball joints has split its rubber gaitor. The balljoint itself is fine with no play or strange noises, and seeing as the gaitor is only held on with a couple of clips surely there must be somewhere I can buy a replacement from?

Seems daft to have to buy a whole new track control arm when all it needs is a rubber gaitor.

Suggestions please?

SuperCheap Auto on Mill St. has replacement boots - oh that's right, that's 13,800km away from you

Seriously, they are hopefully available in your area - it's only the large diameter that's important, as the small diameter just presses down on the taper as the joint is fitted. Good idea to replace them while you can. I use CV joint grease in my balljoints.

I don't know if you have 'general' suspension equipment shops - we seem to - the type that sell custom springs, polyurethane bushes, etc. They usually have a range of 'generic' rubber boots for balljoints/racks etc. that can often be matched-up on size (rather than by make/model).

Sorry this is no help at all really :)

Cheers for the advice Alex and Custard (y) I only want the one though Custard!

Will have to check out some of the local auto parts stores to see what I can come up with. Seems weird that you can buy driveshaft gaitors without any problems yet balljoint rubbers are difficult to find  I guess that by the time the rubbers need changing on most of them then the joint itself is usually knackered...

I shall go and look later this week and see what I can find.

And Alex, I've got a huge tub of CV grease so it seems a shame not to use it!

Hi,
I don't know about your particular model but you can buy split gaitors.
Some people don't like em because they are fiddly, as you get a tube of glue and have to stick it together whilst trying to hold the greese in and sometimes they don't last very long.
I've use them before with out any probs.

your thinking CV boot,no?

yes i think they are :)

i've tried using that type of cv boot, personally i prefer to rip the driveshaft off and do it properly, and on some cars you dont even need to remove the driveshaft. i have a plastic cone that is used for fitting them, makes life so much easier.

actually now i think about it wtf happened to that cone, i think thats another thing i lost when i moved last september.
