Ice On Roads

Ice On Roads

Thought I'd post my monthly message in here... Given the Stilo-help I've had on here, I really should post more often.... ;)

You'll be pleased to know that ice isn't much of a problem on the roads at the moment, only where there may be spillages or burst water pipes. The air is really dry, so whilst our motors get plastered with frost overnight, the roads are generally frost-free. Some gritters are going out, but others aren't, as dry roads below freezing aren't a hazard.

Still worth taking it easy though! :)

Cheers

The Stilo's should be ok :p

depends where you are. it rained here yesterday so rain + cold = ice.

Not neccessarily ;)
I'm guessing you're in eastern England somewhere? That's pretty much the only place that's had rain today. The wind and patches of cloud should be enough to keep the road surfaces above freezing, even if your car gets a bit icy :)

Yeah, seepage ice can be a problem here and there. If you didn't notice any grit on that, it's worth letting the council know. I'm pretty sure they do their best to scan the entire network, but some places will always get away ;)

errr rubber tyres don't grip ice, not so far as I know!!!

and btw skinny wheels are the way forward;)

apparently there was snow in whitby yesterday!!

It was just sleet up in them thar hills (the N.Yorks Moors), yeah we dont really get Ice here, living in a triangle of powerstations means we have our own microclimate

I know what you mean.

You can basically drive from a few junctions north of york turn off on a1. and its just what i call 'power station alley" all the way down to tamworth nr birmingham.

I assure you, for that entire distance (150miles+) you can ALWAYS see at least one powerstation around you.

Well, we've already had the 1st death on roads local to me due to folk forgetting how to drive in the snow and ice (n) happens every year :(
Also seems that in the space of a few short weeks (a period of time that we in Scotland sometimes call the "summer") folk forget to check they've got screenwash that doesn't freeze, de-icer in the car and that their tyres might actually have some tread when the snow comes...... :bang:

On a clear day you can see them all from Halifax or from the last hill when coming back to selby from bridlington :p

i work at a layby near high plantation hill (near market weighton) n u can see loads of the powerstations there its well nice seein it when im working bit scary tho as the winter is coming and its quite dangerous round there! :(

Whoever said the air is dry, when i walk to the station over a recreation ground in the mornings (About 7:45) its almost always got dew on it. Had some frost on it this morning. However saying that i dont think my road had any ice on it. I'm North east of London.

my car was a block of ice at 8am. :(

i refuse to use deicer (causes rust and strips wax) on my windows so i wait for it to thaw using the car's air vents. that means i have to get up 10mins earlier in winter. not that i mind because i always let the car warm up no matter what. it just takes longer in winter.

but still, i did enjoy the lie in till 7.20 :p
