Estates aren't my thing to be honest, nice try though :)

Thing is, I honestly don't think Fiat do anything with that level of trim for such a bargain price. I'm gunna take it out for another test drive tomorrow and make a decision then. But the future is looking bleak for my ownership of Italian cars...

You have missed the point that I have made though. The test drive, price and kit on the car is all very well.

But my point was the cost of ownership.

Find out how much an A, B, & C service will cost you ( and at what mileage they need to be done), how much say a clutch will cost to replace, or a new tyre, how easy is it to get hold of plugs, etc....here you will find the parts are pricey, and in some cases you will have to wait a while for them to arrive.

Look up the reviews for the car and what everyday people (apart from the reviewers ) have to say about true ownership costs.

The drain on the back pocket will be 6 months to 1 year after you have had the car, not when you go to initially pay for it.

Nutter :p You should know better than to announce any plan to buy anything other than Fiat on here ;) Go ask on the Megane forum, I am sure they will congratulate you (they are very friendly :D).

i like living dangerously ;)

Centaur - ALL servicing (unless an ecu fault or similar) will be done by either myself or my neighbour, who has his own garage and has done the servicing on our cars for god knows how long. It can't get much worse than paying £400+ for a service, 8 hours labour but only charged for 3.

I like my Punto, it has character, but I need a comfortable cruiser, not a hatchback that runs dodgy and rolls around corners.

Had a Clio for 3 years and in that time the only things that were placed was 1 tyres and filter, plugs oil at service time which on the newer Renaults is 18k or 2 years whatever comes first.

Parts yes some are expensive others not so. Just depends. Servicing costs can be fairly good as well no different to anywhere else.

Could write about my mate who just bought a Punto he took it back saying something wrong with the exhaust dealer tried to charge him £35 just to have a look at it on a car he had just bought that was under warranty. Since had a new exhuast on it his £35 refunded but its now blowing again. Also had few bits for the power steering replaced. Suing just those 2 cars as an example baring in mind i got 3 years free insurance on the Clio which would you want to buy?

I know where my money would go for cheap motoring. least the Renault dealers dont try conning me out of £35 just to say something is wrong with the car. And then say oh we dont cover the exhaust.

Now from a person who has owned both Fiats and Renaults as well as many others my view is if its a newer Megane they can be pretty good the older one is a bit iffy at times but the newer one is a well put together car. Like Fiat dealers some of them are great and some are bloody terrible and deserve shooting. My Dealers was brilliant with my car only thing it went in for was a suspension recall and they did it while i waited had ti done very quickly started it straight away. Service time was great as well guy came and picked the car up took it serviced it and brought it back for me. Came back fully valetted as well.

Other local dealer was awful though.

Find me a Fiat that has this spec for less than £3500 and I'll stay with Fiat...

If it costs that little than there might be something wrong with it or they have a bad reputation, thought about a Stilo?

I found out why he's selling so cheap. It's an ex-fleet car and has 80k on the clock, but my dad has had good experiences with french diesels, his old Citroen ZX went on strong to 250k, then the HG went and he bought something else. Parkers suggests this Megane should be worth about £3,600 but i can get him down to £3,200 (it's marked as £3,295).

Basically, I'm putting a deposit down on it tomorrow as IMO it's worth every penny. I haven't told my mum that yet and she's already trying to sell my car for me lol :D

Well... The Punto will be changing hands in about 2 hours, it's served me well. :)

Goodbye P273VBW... I'll miss you :)

(you may be able to buy it in an auction house near you soon, as that's what i've been told the dealers do with part-exchanged cars that hold little value).

had a few different makes over the years and allways come back to fiat they may not have the spec but they are allways more reliable then other makes i mean even better then bmw and thats saying something fiat for ever:slayer:
