I was recently browsing the web looking for insurance quotes and discovered something quite shocking.

Got a quote form Endsleigh of £1006 for what ever conditions i had entered into the system. Fair enough. Then thought i'd change me to be female and the quote came back as £600.[:0][:0][:0]
Everything else was the same, just said i was female

I mean thats ridiculous. I don't see females as better or worse drivers than males. Some people are better or worse drivers, in my opinion its not sex dependant.

I do not wish to start a "battle of the sexes" over this, but cummon a £400 difference is huge.

Whats other peeps opinions of this?

The female of the species is considered to be less of an insurance risk than the male. The term is 'boy racer' because there are more boys than girls trashing cars. Simple economics.

On a happier note, try putting your wife, girlfriend, mother, etc., onto your insurance as a named driver if they have a good no claims. You may be surprised.

I can agree to a slight extent i suppose with the "boy racer" term. And yes with me being 18 i will fall nicely into the stereotype of that category.

With this in mind i would be willing to pay a little more, but not £600 more.

Yeah, I agree.

Another aspect of economics...Competition!

Keep looking there will be somewhere cheaper.:D

It gets less bad as you get older mate, but it the stats that have it in for you. Unfortunately a lot of young men are twats. They can drive well if they want to but they just don't, and spoil it for the rest of us who haven't crashed yet (touches wood, hugs NCB).

When my girl turns 21 I'm adding her to my insurance as she's been driving longer than me and it will reduce the yearly premium by £20 or so, every little counts.

Just keep the female bit on your insurance, if they refuse to pay out say you are a female but your trapped in a male body:D

Yep, it's a case of the dickheads screwing things up for everyone else. Blame "Kev" and the gang in their Burberry caps and shagged-out Vauxhalls.
But think of it this way: when you consider the number of inattentive school-run mums in 4x4s/dozy senile old bats in micras/spoilt teenage bimbos in Daddy's car/etc that infect our roads, it's slightly surprising that men are so severely penalised...[xx(]

Errm yeah £1006 is a quote before i have declared anything and only TPFT. The online service doesn't have a mods feature. So it will go up when i pop in and see em tommorrow. Also discovered that if i set my address as campus its £10 cheaper than setting it as St. Annes (home).

Sometimes it's good to be a woman :). One company still had the cheek to quote me over £1500 though - they got a bit upset when I asked them if they would price match my final quote, simply didn't believe it.

Insurance in general is a joke though, it would be a lot lower for all of us if the governement would clamp down on unlicensed drivers (and asylum seekers), uninsured drivers (and asylum seekers) and people who drive away from accidents (and asylum seekers). I think you get my point [:(!]

with my insurance i added my girlfriend as a named driver and i bought my quote down by over £200!
she was having quotes for £700 fully comp on an r reg cinq sporting, with no claims bonus no pass pluss, but passed her test 1.5years ago and drives her mums car twice a week.

The gap between male and female narrows as you get older, I believe from 21 upwards most companies don't discriminate:D
