Hi all,
I was watching a program on TV last night (wheeler dealers i think) and it had the Mercedes Cosworth on.
It said they were running at 190bhp as standard.
I thought these cars were supposed to be quick, but with all the weight of leather, air con etc i would not have thought they would be all that swift.

Anyone put me in the right? (y)

2.3 16v, the car isn't that heavy and back when it first surfaced was a force to be reckoned with on the roads but was soon outdone by new cars like everything else, I think they produced it cos they entered a race series but can't be sure.

EDIT: also have you been in a car with 150+BHP they ain't exactly slow, Top Gear has affected everyone into thinking you need 600bhp to go fast, try something along those lines they are fast enough for most road situations.

Yeah it used to do road rallying.
Before i got the car i have now i seen one for sale for 1600 in mint condition. Nearly baught it but it had really bright red leather and it put me off. Looked nice though.

4 Cylinder fuel injected engine. 2498cc, light alloy cylinder head with twin overhead cams and 16 valves. Approx 205bhp @ 6200rpm and 175 ft/lb torque @ 4500rpm. 0-60mph approx 6.9 seconds, top speed approx 150mph.

:worship:

What do you mean Chris, Standard form? They are pretty obvious as they were all kitted so if you know what your looking for you'll spot them easy.

As for it being a poor mans Lotus Carlton then yeah but the Lotus Carlton is in a totally different league to the Merc, it was basically a supercar in a saloon shell.

Thats the 2.5-16v "cosworth" which is heavier and slower than the early 2.3-16v, and the 2.5 only has 175-180bhp (evo2 has 205), top speed 145mph.

2.3 has 180-185bhp and 0-60mph approx 6.6, top speed 145, but far more chuckable:D They are smaller than most people think, phisicly smaller/lighter than Ford sierra and mondeo. RHD 2.3 should be black or silver with half/full black leather and manual 5 speed dogleg gearbox.

great fun (y)

funny you should meantion the lotus carlton, look what i saw today coming home from work ;) totally ledge car

My bro had a Merc cosza it was pretty quick though it had loads of luxury as they had full elecs even the head rests was eleccy how cool is that in a car of that time and age.
Though me and my bro perfered the BMW Alpina B9 which was not only quicker, lighter it was real b1tchin,raw,fun. plus it cost more than the top of the range porka at the time.

I will own a lc in my lifetime, a proper one though, not a budget omega job.

Have you never heard on the trend now.
You get an omega and use cardboard and ductape to make it look like the shed of your dreams. (y)
