Good evening,

I'm a newbie in Swindon with a 2005 1.2 Punto I've bought for my daughter.

I've got the 'classic' problem of the speedo not working, However all the other gauges are working fine. The car has got ABS. The ABS light doesn't come on at all. Not even when the car is started up and its running through its start up cycle.

I understand that the speedo takes its measurement from the sensors on the hubs, however I'm concerned after doing a bit of research that there could be an issue with the ABS Unit.

I've plugged in my OBD generic reader and its given me a P0500 error code, however I think that I need a MES Diagnostic check run on it.

I'm based in Swindon, and wondered if there is anyone near that may have one, that for a fee would be able to help me out and plug their reader into the car?

Thanks!

Hi,
Not near Swindon, but don't have to be to know you have bought a lemon. Almost certainly the ABS has an issue and the seller has disabled the warning light to hide it. It's an MOT fail and it is also an offence to drive a car without a functioning speedometer. You need to go back to the seller and get them to sort it or give your money back.

Thanks for your words of comfort there pal. I know Ive got a problem. I'm trying to fix the problem not have dumb remarks

My point was that all MES (why not buy it yourself rather than asking for someone elses assets and time first?) will do is confirm the obvious. If you have just bought the car you need to go back to the seller in the first case. Was it dealer (someone who sells cars for profit, does not need to be obviously a business) or private sale? Even if it was a private sale how was the car described? Did the speedo and ABS work on the test drive? You did test drive the car didn't you? You are apparently savvy enough to have a code reader so you should know that the ABS light should come on with the ignition. If you bought it knowing the speedo and ABS did not work, your attitiude here is unlikely to elicit a positive response. It comes over to me that you bought the car with known faults and are trying to get free help. Being straightforward about it would be a better approach, then we would not have to consider your rights as a consumer for starters. That said if you bring the car to me I'll happily run MES on it.

Robert, clearly youre passing opinion on me when you don't know me. Would appreciate that you don't comment on this post any more

I think you've hit a raw nerve there, g8rpi. Don't you just love newbs who come on and the first thing they ask is a question then get ratty and disappear when they don't get the result they wanted?

As a moderator I'm very careful what I say. I only stated how I felt you came across and that was before I noticed that you had started muliple threads on the same subject. I also note that you have not stated where the car came from or if the fault was apparent on the test drive.
I will continue to contribute to the thread as I think fit.

As a moderator you should know better, and also you shouldn't be sending personal messages with derogatory comments about other members, which have been reported to the other mods on here. I'm not bothered what you see fit to say because your comments are of no use to anyone. Anyway you must be tired, so back to beddy bies otherwise you will be tired for Jeremy Kyle tomorrow

By the way g8rpi, here is a copy of the Personal Message you sent me yesterday. As a moderator you should be more responsible with your views and opinions. Sleep well.....

Posting a 'private' message in an attempt to cause trouble won't have you hanging around the forums for long.

Re: Thanks

Hi, You need to establish what you have first. If it drives off the gearbox then there will be a speed sensor just above the diff housing or as I said if it has ABS then it will drive off that which is located just behind the battery. See what you have and then get back to me and we'll take it from there. I work as a mechanic so should hopefully be able to help, I won't be back online now until tomorrow. Take no notice of Ziggy - you'll notice a number of members like him who think they know what they are on about but in fact talk from an orifice not intended for communication.

That PM very clearly states at the top it is not from g8rpi by from maggers.

And yes, posting PMs publicly is against the forum rules. You have been warned.

Especially since it was MY pm!!! And I stand by the contents.
You see, if you look at my garden on Google Earth then apart from seeing me sunbathing in the nude you will notice a barren patch where little grows. This is where I grow any Funks I may wish to give, however due to the low crop output per sq.yd. I am unable to spare one to give on this subject. Flying Funks are notoriously hard to cultivate so I save them for special occasions, of which this is not one.
