The ending with no set/cast/music anything was pretty sad.

Agreed. It's the end of an era. Hammonds' face fungus though: that was bad!!

However, I have faith in Chris Evans, as I know he's a much bigger petrolhead than Clarkson was. If anyone is going to make a success of Top Gear Mk3, it will be him.

Oh god yeah! Needed a shave. Literal elephant in the room was clever!

I do too. For a car show. For Top Gear? I've got no faith. The three of them were Top Gear. The broadcaster and the name of the show are irrelevant.
I also disagree with him stabbing them all in the back like that.

Frankly I won't watch past the first episode with Evans.

Personally I'm quite disappointed to see that it's Chris Evans has been chosen to head up the new Top Gear. I don't even remember him when he was on Piccadilly Radio in Manchester, yet I can remember quite a few who were, such as Steve Penk and Mike Sweeney.

I made the mistake of watching TFI Friday the other week and that's done it for me. I know I sound like "Outraged of Tunbridge Wells" writing to Points of View, but what I watched was the biggest load of drivel it's ever been my misfortune to see on television. I think I'd rather watch the Test Card.

About five years ago we were sitting outside a bar in Cannes when Clarkson walked past. Mrs. Beard said hello and he replied with a smile. A few minutes later he came back the other way, and looking a bit puzzled she asked if he was lost. He replied that he wasn't but was waiting for his wife and looking for a table outside the bar but they were all taken. We were about to leave and Mrs. Beard suggested that he sat down while we got the bill, which he did. He made polite conversation until we left and he even shook our hands.

Have met famous people before who were a lot less friendly

All 3 of them have given him their blessing, and wished him luck. To begin with, he didn't want the job, for fear of stabbing them in the back, but they reassured him.

To be fair, the amount Clarkson smokes, surely he can't have that many years left to live anyway!

I find Chris Evans in the morning a bit loud and often irritating. I have mixed feelings about him and Top Gear, but will give him a chance. I think it might work.

Also looking forward to whatever Jeremy will do next, hopefully something similar on another channel. BBC will probably schedule a clash, forgetting that we all have recorders of some sort.

Ironically it's the very same things in Top Gear that was, that the haters disliked, that the fans of the show used to tune in & watch. Both my wife & I were entertained on many an occasion, watching it for what it was, a "pretendy" high jinks show. I can understand that some disliked the shenanigans, but seemed to go to great lengths to show their hate, perhaps making them feel better.

Clarkson was an actor & used any format he saw fit & offended people so much so it would seem that some wanted him dead. Aye the safety from behind the keyboard is a comfortable place. I've never met the man, but I've talked to some people who have & the message is always positive. He does quite a lot for charity & unlike others doesn't shout about it. I'm only making observations here. Clarkson was never short in sending himself up either.

As for Chris Evans, he is a different kettle of fish all together & being a petrol head is the only thing in common with Clarkson. Drink in his early career just about wiped him out. Now, I feel he can be bit manic, very highly strung & may come across as too much to watch for any length of time, even on a car show. Stating the obvious, we can only wait & see.

With Evans it'll be an hour of 'look at all my cars/look what I've bought this week/look how much money I've got/look what I'm doing for charity this week.... can't stand the bloke so i'll be washing my hair or something equally productive.
