Is it just me or is any one else taken aback by some of the pathetic scenes of people actually fighting over electrical goods in the likes of Tesco today.....

I don't think I'd want a cheap telly that much......

(ed. Title should of course be 'Friday')

First it was law suits

now black friday.....

next we'll convert to the dollar and start driving in straight lines only.....

i think it should be a lesson learnt - ban it while its still early

Daughters friend has just rung her and the telly she bought in Tesco at Eston this morning has a cracked screen obviously caused in the scrum to buy the thing.....It's a bit harsh perhaps but it's hard to feel sorry for her really.

Did you also notice the age of some of them? Bear in mind these orchestrated events started at midnight, why were there little kids there?
Disgraceful scenes, but a sign of our modern multi- cultural must- have consumer goods society!

I think it's the stores deliberately whipping these people, who to be honest are easily led, into a frenzy because these scenes where the media happen to be ready and waiting, all look good from a publicity point of view. "Look how good our deals are so good people are fighting over them"

However it all backfired and the police have seriously condemned these stores for there practices today, let's hope a bit more common sense prevails next year, as I can't see it's something that's going to suddenly go away

I stayed well away. If I want cheap electronics I'll buy them online. Just cheap tat sold cheaper than usual.

All the premium stuff is pretty much same price albeit with something chucked in.

It's not worth going to prison for jabbing someone in the throat over a television.

It can not be a derogatory term. Black Friday is racist enough. ;)

Actually it's not racist at all. It's name stems from it signifying the day many retailers turn their in year loses (in the red) to pre Xmas profits (in the black).

So I don't think its a good idea to take the thread off down that route .......:)

Yes that is the origin of it. Red turning to black in the accounts as Christmas gets closer.
Surely nobody thought in this day and age where everybody takes offence at the slightest thing that it was called Black Friday for any other reason!?
Having seen some of the pictures in certain stores it would be an easy assumption to make but I suppose it's a reflection of the population in the area.
The sad fact is that in the next few days there will be people sitting in offices discussing what their Black Friday offers will be for next year.
The Buying teams will be looking in the Far East in January / February :(

And the reason its black and red is because that was the colour of the ink used in the ledgers to show profit and loss (For those of a younger age - A ledger was how accounts were recorded before computers ;) )

The winking smiley should have indicated I wasn't being serious.

I think folk realise that, but you only have to look at the comments posted all over you tube underneath videos showing in store fighting to see how quickly and easily such a connection is made which then subsequently deteriorates into some really unpleasant, offensive and overt racism. That's the risk I think of making such a remark.

......just sayin like....:)
