they are also loads pounds higher too :nutter:

when they are under a fiver they are worth a post atm you are just wasting internet space

Ever done a audiometry course????

Give me the H M L ratings of those protectors? strange screwfix dont list that or the brand so you can't search it....

There a lot more to just buying something to plonk over your ears

why buy those when you can get a 20 pairs of ear plugs that offer some decent protection across the hearing range for £2.89 incl postage with 35 db NRR/ SNR and not get in the way if in a engine bay or under a car

the optime 2 defenders work out at about £8 more if you shop about

3M Peltor Optime II Hearing Protectors, Headband, (H520A-407-GQ): Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

also these are strip able and serviceable for about £7 you can replace the foam and sealing rings when they get grubby... and last a long time due to the build quality

which offer a good range of protection through out the frequency range of most power and pneumatic tools at most peoples disposal..

Why buy something that doesn't potentially fit properly , fails to maintain a good seal on the side of your head... (glasses wearers or safety spec's affect fit and seal) always good to try before you buy

or they are sprung so tightly they clamp your head in a vice or slip off every time you bend over...

If they dont fit or ain't comfortable you wont wear them....

As for wasting internet space have you got any experience of noisy environments and specific requirements for users taking their LEQ8 and Peak exposure into account :nutter:

edit and some of the reviews probably explain why they are cheap.....

Great but fragile.

"Really neat design. Folds up into compact unit which keeps dust out of the ear pieces in tool bag.
Strap is really brittle however and shatters very easily.
Bought a second pair after first ones broke. Surprise surprise, second pair shattered too!!"

£8 more is nearly 3 times the price, that is a lot of money for some one that may only use them once or twice a year, these fit kids too so ideal for children with the type of autism that makes them not like odd noises like drills or fireworks, or for taking any kids to pod where some parents never buy defenders because they are too expensive.

this is my first hand experience as per forum rules, not a mate has them that is against forum rules.

i don't say its the rules that say! i'm sure you know where they are
You may not use discussions to recommend, praise, or belittle other products or services, or any company; without first hand experience of those products or services.
the rule was put in place to stop people posting things like "They are crap (mate has a pair)"

Or get some ACS pro series ear plugs :)

I'm sorry Dave, but as someone who used to work for a large hearing care company that dealt with loads of musicians and professionals I can only say that Andy is right and you are wrong.

There are some things which are worth spending extra for and hearing protection is one of those things. But cheap ear defenders and you will just end up damaging your hearing. Simple as that.

To pull some silly forum rule out like this is just childish.....

Go on then tell me how i have broken this rule?........ :bang:

He works as a agricultural engineer and they did live in his van i grabbed them when i was applying some persuasion to suspension parts to landrover using a 4 1/2" grinder with a slitting disc... i stopped just after i started and got my peltors out of the car boot they were uncomfortable and didn't seal well and as such offered next to protection ...

so how exactly have i broken any rules? just because they don't belong to me doesn't mean i haven't used them myself :worship: :spin:

ive seen a lot of pub staff with these in but in my usual line of work a reduction of 17db SNR would just bring us within 2nd upper action limit with the machines enclosures shut

company issues Moldex spark plugs or Peltor optime 1's though i went up to optime 2's due to the job i do at work and are more suited in that respect over the general machine operators who work outside the soundproof boxes ..

Ive also used various 3m brand , Bilsom, Arco's own brand (re branded peltors) JSP, MSA and peltor helmet mounted defenders, along with various EAR, Howard Light, 3m plugs and ear caps..... in the past depending on the situation and type of use / exposure...

Some of the newer anti noise and noise cancelling defenders and ear pods are fantastic when reps have let me have a play with them but they are not cheap ....

back tracking never looks good, you never put you had personal experiance in original post or put any reason why they was crap, if they are that bad you would be better off spending your time writing to screwfix to remove them from sale instead of just dissing members who post things to try and help peple out

Oh do give up Dave. The rule is obviously there to stop people just blanket rubbishing products with no experience or knowledge. It's clear who is far more knowledgeable about the subject and it's not you.

Oh yeah how stupid of me.. Its hardly backtracking. I just clarified the situation when i got to my pc since it seemed you wanted to take me to task over it and attempt to give the impression that i had broken the forum rules, which as disappointing as it is for you i haven't ... I was on my mobile when I did my initial reply grow up and stop been argumentative for the sake of it,

Especially on a subject you clearly have little understanding of... Im a certificated National Examining Body Of Occupational Safety And Health member

https://www.nebosh.org.uk/Default.asp

So have a good understanding of this subject matter and have sat other courses since then regarding occupational noise and exposure, along with sound mitigation by design/isolation

I am also required to under go annual hearing tests due to work so it makes sense to have a good understanding of this subject field as you only get one set of ears and its well worth protecting them properly....
