Quite south.
My Panda has been off the road for 7 months now, next week I'm going to take it for an MOT (hopefully).
The car is SORN etc but its my understanding you can drive to a pre-booked MOT without tax etc... All you need is insurance, now I can add it to my insurance but that would be a bit optimistic because if it fails I'll have to remove it and it'll be at a whole months cost.
Now obviously you can get 1 day insurance from various places but I'm wanting reasonable rates for a 19 year old, I've held my license over 2 years but its still seems difficult finding 1 day cover to literally drive less than 3 miles to the MOT station

Why will you have to remove it if it fails? Surely you'll want to keep it insured so you can take it back for a retest?

You won't find anywhere that will do temp cover for a 19 year old, not without it being a silly price, why not get one of your parents/someone older to insure it and take it for you?

Not that long a go you could just add a temporary car for a few days for £20-30 and it's worth seeing if your insurance co will do that for you.

But now insurance companies are after every penny so costs are likely to be much much higher

I've got a quote but its £50 so they can stuff that.
I might ask one of my parents but that means I have to get one of them to the car when they're free etc. Seems like probably the only way :(

Adding as a second car to my insurance includes a £20 admin fee followed by £25 odd for the month, so that makes it pretty expensive anyway, rather get it insured and then change my insurance to it and get money back because the Panda is cheaper to insure, if that makes sense...

Watch out about getting a family member that has 3rd party insurance cover for other vehicles

The clause behind it may forwell say the vehicle must be fully insured before somebody can drive it 3rd party

Ziggy
I thought other people could only drive another vehicle third party if said vehicle already has insurance on it, well at least that normally seems to be the case.
I might be able to get my Mother to come and drive it to the MOT, that's only £15 for the day which is perfectly acceptable!

Just like trying to tax a car you cant use 1 day insurance to take a car for an MOT test i dont think - the car must have MOT and tax to get 1 day insurance

This is to stop idiots paying £10/20 whatever it costs driving about in unroadworthy vehicles all day every day

Its usually in the small print if not on the website etc

I dont find it a suprise that you are struggling to get the cover you require for what you need it for - your age and lack of driving experience is also a probable negative also as most short term companies require over 21 years old and a liscence holder for 3 years

Although your intentions are good - 19 years old, 2 years driving experience and trying to get short term cover an unroad worthy car (currently) that is not taxed either - well if i was an insurer alarm bells would be ringing - it doesnt sound too goid when you read it like that

Personally id tow it to the MOT station
