Has anyone every had one of these done, either prior to buying a used car, or after?

If so what were you reasonings? Did the report tell you want you wanted to know and would you recommend having one done, or use the service again?

I'm looking at needing to have the work with my gearbox repair inspected, along with the replaced parts to aid in a legal case. Best thing currently seems to be a unit / component inspection, but costs £202 from RAC http://www.rac.co.uk/buying-a-car/vehicle-inspections/other-products

Just called the RAC and seems they're useless. Cannot remove parts to inspect etc. How the hell it can be called a 'component inspection' and report is beyhond me!

Be careful if planning in using this for a legal case. There was a piece in autoexpress recently about this, with the RAC not willing to stand by their inspection in court.

What's the point then. They say it great nothing wrong, then it falls to bits, the inspection is worthless.

Let me know the story and i'll give you an opinion from a garage point of view of what would be the best approach.
