cheap dash cam?

cheap dash cam?

If it helps anyone, I've had a good experience with this one.

It has a 'parking sensor' which is way too sensitive, so I'd recommend turning it off. I'd also say it records at 720p, but is blown up to 1080p, but you can change the mode. Keep the sound on to record significant number plates as the video quality can be hard to see number plates.

Otherwise, it's a low cost constant recording camera that has collision detection, a lead long enough to go through the trims with some slack, Powers on and off with the car, and for some bizarre reason can double up as a webcam :p

I didn't like the dedicated 12v power for it, so I purchased a 5m USB cable and connected it to a 12v USB dual port, and it seems to work much the same as with their 12v charger.

I bought a cheap one from a petrol station a while ago. On consideration its not very good and I regret it. Camera Angle is a little poor and it over exposes in may light conditions and is totally useless at night. Buyers beware. Check the reviews of such things.

I was forced by a moron to emergency stop on the M11 a few months back and sent the film to Essex Police after a conversation with them. I am still waiting for a response. I suggest therefore that these are more or less a waste of money, because if the y take no action when shown this sort of behaviour, along with the previous 20mins of my normal driving, what on earth is the point???

If the result of someone's bad driving was just a near miss, it is unlikely the police have the time or manpower to follow this up. They may have noted it against that car or driver, and would use it if later another complaint or incident occurred. They may be able to visit him and discuss his poor driving, but are unlikely to prosecute on just your statement and the video. You'd need to attend court, and without another statement/witness, the prospect of success might be limited. If a collision had occurred, the matter would have been different. If they do visit and have a word with the driver, they are unlikely to give you any feedback.

Must admit ive been looking at the 412gw which is the newest version of the 312gw which seems to be the most common/well loved Nextbase camera.

Not cheap as such but I like their mounting system. Get a mount for each car and easy to swap the camera between each car.

I've been really happy with my F70 dual camera set up, now around 3 years old- but the rear camera has packed in, no image on the PinP screen.Anyone experienced this with a F70 and sussed it out? Thanks in advance

Bit late, but something like this. As far as I understand it participating police forces will bring in submitted dash cam videos for prosecuting someone for dangerous driving. But they won't use the videos alone to contact or fine them as it alone isn't enough evidence, and they don't have the time for it.

Insurers love them though, especially when you're not liable for an accident that's been recorded (y) Most people upload dangerous driving videos to YouTube. Just be careful not to submit one that's being used as evidence.

They will in some cases, I had an Audi driver given a driver improvement course on my footage alone a few years back.

No issue, if its your footage you can do as you wish with it. Only time it could cause an issue is if it prejudices a liability stance, but if they've already got the footage then this isn't likely to happen.

I've not heard anything back about blackvue, not cheap but like everything you get what you pay for.

i bought it, and the power magic prohard wire kit (£20, that will actually work with and dashcam by the looks of it), just got to go home bargains now to get stronger reading glasses so i can read the tiny writing instruction book:bang:
