My better half and I are off this week. Have booked two nights in Edinburgh, as it looks like a nice place and we've never been there.

Soooooo, what's to do during the day? We're ~mile from the city centre toward the west end.

I was up there all of last June for work, the castle is about a 20 minute walk out of town you can see it from the train station so that's worth a visit I reckon, check on the prices though!

Other than that I don't know much else that is up there as I was working a lot and being social!

Edinburgh is a small city
wherabouts in the West End are you?
You have the whole tourist shizzle going on in the city centre
you can jump on an open top bus and get off/on as you like on the route
Castle is expensive but if its your thing Royal Mile has plenty going on
Museum on Chambers street is free
you have the Ggardens on Princess street, floral clock etc
art gallery just off there
Botanic Gardens if you want to go for a walk there

Day ticket on Lothian buses is £3.50,that covers all travel through the day on their buses.

Hard Rock Cafe :slayer:

Carry plenty of change for parking. I didn't have any tried the automated payment thing and it was a joke. Wouldn't understand me because I'm not scottish lol.

Its not racist. I couldnt get it to work on either of my last two cars.

I would recommend not taking your car into the city if you can avoid it.
we are on of the most congested citys in Europe and the never ending tram works add to the misery

Camera Obsura and World of Illusions is pretty cool. Definately something different. I would also recommend this place for lunch, good quality food and at a reasonable price if you get the set menu, 3 courses for £11.50

Will look into that, but not the restaurant (girlfriend is vegetarian).

I plan to leave the car in the car park and we'll walk everywhere we need to! Sheffield has a similar road system (although our tram works  )

Ahh, but at least the blackpool ones go somewhere..

The edinburgh one is stuck on Princess Street, and has been for at least 2 years and possibley the same again...

I'll have you know I have seen a moving tram!
They were testing it near the Gyle on the rails(which had to be removed and refitted due to poor quality concrete!)

nice and central then.
I used to work just round the corner at the (then) Dragonara Hotel)
easy walking distance into town,or jump a bus.
The LRT site(and travel scotland) allows you to plan journeys which tyells when & where to get what bus)
Most well known veggie place in Edinburgh is Hendersons http://www.hendersonsofedinburgh.co.uk/
Theres no shortage of eatereies in the city though.

We've been and come back now. Fingers crossed we've not contracted the local lurgy :D

Had a good time. Edinburgh is nice. Went to various galleries and museums during the day, weather was a bit nasty for any of the outdoor stuff. Watched some live just of the mile. lol'd at yer trams, and ate at Henderson's.

500 mile round trip, and the Clio did something useful for once. 55mpg!
