An accident which was no ones fault, no blame lies with anyone, just an unfortunate chain of events which nearly cost me my life

To cut a long story short - on the A1 wet/sleety bitterly cold weather last night, overtaking a HGV went to pull back into inside lane, lost the back end, spun twice then flipped twice comign to a rest in a ditch

Managed to open the door and get out, phoned emergency services they all turned up amazed i walked out virtually unscathed

A few cuts and bruises and a swollen hand as well as a bit sore but nothing is broken or damaged

Car doesnt buff out so it has gone to car heaven, my god it deserves its place in there! Just to let you know this car is nearly 10 years old ive had it for 4 years, never let me down mechanically and didnt let me down when it mattered

I always knew these were good cars which is why i bought one and ill always recommend them now for all of eternity

Minutes after accident

Viewed the damage this morning, totally stunned i walked away

No one initially stopped so no witnesses but i am not being charged with anything i.e. dangerous driving nor will any further action will be taken against me so im happy i didnt cause anything, nor was any of it my fault

No one is quite sure what happened, i think i lost grip on the white lines on the road and thats how i lost the back end, but cant rule out a diesel patch, oil patch in the road, it isnt a blowout either as the tyres are still on the car abeit damaged there are also no visible skid marks nor was there any tyre debris

Im not an inexperienced driver either had liscence for a number of years and used this route well 100's of times

But i am fine and will be - i remember everything that happened and it was all in slow motion, but i had prepared myself for the reaper or a knockout blow, neither came

Someone defiantely was watching over me, be careful out there now winter is coming in

**** me! Glad you're OK :).

I know you had a focus like this one dont know if youve still got it but if you have and god forbid something bad happens in it there is the proof above that that design is a pensioner in car years but itll still protect you

Glad your ok man! I know how shaken up I was after my accident and It was only minor!

Sad loss of a gorgeous Sei, but it did its job to save your life.
Cars can be replaced, people cant.

Much love, Drive safe
Tom

Sei got sold 5 years ago thats a focus above not convinced the sei wouldve saved me but thanks anyway :)

looks more like a focus to me

Impressive crash! (y) Why didn't the lorry stop? Good to hear you're ok.

dont know

surprised the roof peeled.
curious now did the engine run upside down?

yeah it was running when i left it, mainly because the rear took the main impact although didnt know that at the time as i lost all sense of direction

when it was flipped back over it died

That's impressive!!

Glad to see you not only survived, but walked out!!

That is one lucky escape - my brother did something similar to that in a Scirocco Storm (about 20 years ago), the only bit of the roof that wasn't flattened down to the bonnet-line was over the driver's seat. Had anyone else been in the car they would have been dead...

I know what you went through, was in similar accident a few years ago myself...

Even the same side of the car is damaged

But we walked away from that and I'm glad to hear you did too :)

Personally I think standing water may be a big factor in what happened there, I've been slithering all over the place in the van in recent weeks

Good to hear you're OK.

I've recently bought a car for my girlfriend to practice in as she learns to drive, my initial thought was Cinquecento - but as I was looking at them, I started looking more at NCAP ratings. Guess I'm getting older as I bought the car that was in budget/spec with the highest NCAP rating!

Very lucky in that Focus though, I don't think the front roof structure is any stronger than rear so it boils down to sheer luck that it didn't squish the front as it rolled

sorry about your car, but, glad you are okay. reminds me of a similar thing that happened to me, but never got to flipping part. when a car starts spinning, it´s almost useless to try anything, leaves one powerless to react. buy lottery.
