I somewhat fear this will lead to more fuel efficient tyres at the expense of grip.

Surely Dry braking grip in addition to wet would of made sense. Wet braking is important, but it's a measure of both the tyres compound and how good it is at clearing water. Also doesn't show whether the tyre has good grip in summer or winter conditions.

It's good in someways, hopefully will lead to the absolutely terrible budget tyres being removed.

Another thing is also if someone sees their tyres have the highest wet weather braking rating, will they then drive faster in wetter conditions?

If the EU goes that far then we're getting to the stage where we're actually grading tyres for how good they are overall and I think regulatory bodies need to stay away from that.

I think fuel consumption, wet braking and noise are 3 important things and to go any further is dangerous.

mine didn't seem to make a noise maybe they fail because they gripped so well :(

you seem to have made a whole issue of this

"Because the T1 R was an old tyre, The T1 Sport is a far better tyre and conforms to the new laws on tyres that comes out in December,
""

what about the fact your supplier is telling you the T1 sport is a far better tyre?

he isn't saying its better, but saying its more of an all rounder to comply with the sticker. so more all-rounder could mean loosing some of the excellent wet cornering of the t1r over more mpg and less noise. I'm not going to be spending £600 to find out, in case they are crap, tread pattern is all wrong, they already tried to replace them before with proxe 4's but they were crap so they had to bring back the t1r's

i missed out the first reply that came with the link

"Its the new tyre stickers about noise wet grip dry grip ect, Thats why all tyres are going asymmetric, An asymmetric pattern can give better performance all round
"

t1r's were cheaper too

Put me down as another fan of the T1R. I really don't want to see it go. The proxes 4 are pants by comparison.

Sorry but the best tyre ever has long since gone. Bridgestone RE720.

Sticks like a leech to a haemophiliac. The Milkbottle has a set of them on and the grip is unbelievable, right up to the point where the tyre, gradually, starts saying ENOUGH!

However, the boffins at Bridgestone have to justify their wages somehow, so it was replaced with the RE 050, which by enthusiastic driving standards, was boring.

I have to say my RE050A's are quite good, but as soon as the weather cools down they're really really really crap.
