It is very nasty, looking at a house tommorow though! Been in touch with West Lindsey Council and have an appointment the CAB next week.

Below is my coat.

and people were saying it wasn't a big deal......

Tbh i wouldn't spend another day in that place. My brothers place was nowhere near that mouldy and my asthma was pretty bad. I've never had an attack but I reckon 5 minutes in your place might do the trick.

Call your council up and get them onto your landlord AND claim compensation for the stuff that the mould has ruined.

I am currently living in an extremely damp flat ... So any advice?

You may need to look at your lifestyle before `prosecuting’ your case – as you don’t want to be facing `counterclaims’ as well as a `defence.’ Consider - the landlord may argue there was no problem until you arrived.

LOL yes I wholeheartedly apologise! That's f'd up!

Although take what Cara says on board, landlords are b'tards at the best of times, he may turn it around and say you caused damage to his property.

God that's awful though mate, bloody hell. I've seen better living conditions in shanty towns!

Hmmmm, I really doubt you could get things to be that mouldy if you sprayed the whole house with a hose once a week......

Fair play to you for coming back and admitting you were wrong (y)

Yes, may I have two slices of humble pie?

Did you not see it was bad before you moved in though? Maybe it's something you're doing to cause it i.e hanging washing inside house with no windows open, showering with no window open and door closed (this caused bad mould issues in my home as I didn't have an extractor fan, now got an inline centrifugal and no steam yay!), etc

Are the windows single glazed? The walls really thin? Any loft insulation?

You can post on various forums telling people to avoid this landlord, but I would seek some professional advice as to how to handle it. You may be better off forgetting it but consult someone first.

Probably have the same effect as drying wet laundry in-house, cooking with no ventilation, & creating tropical rain forest conditions in the bathroom.

If you buy a FIAT on contract hire & drive it with no heat or ventilation it’ll be no surprise that condensation will form & mould develop on the fabric. I wouldn’t advise complaining to the dealer.

Just take some time to think-thro what you might be facing `downstream.'

we had a shower room iwht no ventilation all year last year, all we got was pinking on tiles. easily removed with bleach. for a comparison

its clearly from behind. nothing one person could do in a year could cause that could it?

Yes you may :) On a serious note, it was decorated before I moved in and stunk of fags, it's amazing what they disguise. I don't dry washing at
the flat, I take it to my girlfriends parents house to dry. There is an extractor fan withthe shower, it is under the stairs but I have the kitchen windows open to help the extractor fan. The walls just seem like normal walls really. And I have a flat above me though he is hardly there. I've only been in this place for 5 months!! Ohand it's double glazed.

I can see the water rising up the walls, mainly in the bedroom so I am pretty sure that it is rising damp.

I might move back in withthe rents until I can find somewhere else, this place is going to kill me!

I feel for you I lived in an awful house in birmingham, pathetic little electric heaters and very damp all my clothes went mouldy and house was so cold I didn't eat when i got in I just went to bed!

I spoke to a solicitor who advised me to just do a runner and forget my deposit!

Very good idea. ASAP.

It certainly looks like rising damp from the pics you've posted, and chances are it is connected to the river you mentioned. Are you at ground/basement level? Anyone living below you/any other rooms below you?

From the point of view as a landlord I've got a few questions for you...

Have you notified your landlord in writing about the damp?

Have you attempted to clean the mould at any point? If not why not?
