hey all,

last time i posted a thread like this on here it was 2007 and i went with the TV our friend Jug posted.

anyway, that TV ended up getting shot with a gas gun which rendered it useless :p

i want a 40" LCD with a USB built in for video playback, that's it really, a dvd player would be a bonus but no decent TV's have them built in.

i'm also looking at getting a blue-ray player & surround sound kit package, maybe like £400 ish?

about the same for the TV maybe slightly more, max £1k for the 2.

any advice/help would be great, last time i asked on here i ended up saving loads on the TV i nearly bought

cheers!

i just want a simple USB to throw a cheapie USB in, to be honest mate i'm way out of touch with TV's these days

wel lmy TV has a build in DLNA server
so you bung an ethernet cable in the back and it picks up any shared folders on the PC
so i have TBs of media shared over the network
though admitadly i dont use it now as i have a media PC feeding in over HDMI
it also has 'apps' with facebook and all that guff if thats your thing

Minimum 600mhz 1080p resolution screen, if the size is 50 inch or more go for plasma if its less than 50 inch go for LCD.
Atleast 3 HDMI inputs.
USB & card reader always usefull.

Panasonic gets a big thumbs up from me ... (y)

not a fan of plasma, i hate the after glow, plus they use so much more power! LED has a poor viewing range, only need 1 HDMI but most TV's have 3, i'll never use a card reader but USB reader's are very handy

If you can spare some extra money for a telly, then I would highly Recommend a Bang & Olufsen... Great TV, Surround Sound with it.... Crystal clear picture and Crystal Clear Audio!

"LED has a poor viewing range"

Lol? What?

LCD and Plasma are dinosaur technologies, will be joining CRT before long.

LED is where it's at, and OLED is the next step. Oh, and avoid 3D like the shower area in a maximum security prison.

Well actually what are currently marketed as LED TVs are actually LCD. The only difference between "LED" and "LCD" TVs is that one uses LEDs as the backlight, the other uses a flourescent tube. The picture quality is little different between the two. LED is only required if wall mounting it (as they're thinner).

Proper LED TVs will be along in a few years, but god knows what they'll call them now they've ruined their name and confused everyone.

If you're going to use the TV's internal speakers then shop around - literally. Go to Currys and Comet etc and turn the sound up. Some of them sound awful, even the top brands. The "LED" ones are often the worst - the skinny cabinets have no depth so it's difficult to get anything like bass or even midrange.

I agree about 3D though - it's a fad that's already passing.

I'm sorry but a B&O TV would be a major waste of time, they'll just be buying the panel in from Korea and putting it in a fancy B&O case.
