F-ing Dentist!

Yesterday I looked on my mum's calendar and saw"P" (meaning me) had "DENTIST" written on monday. Hmmm I thought, I wasn't at the dentist on monday! SO I tell my parents, whoops they say, we didn't tell you! So I missed my appointment.

It was just a checkup and the rest of my family was going in today (no idea why we were separate, didn't bother asking) and apologised and knew they would have to pay a fee.

You want to know how much the fee was? £20? £25? £30? Nope, £50. £50 for missing a 2-3 minute checkup, £50!!! For gods's sake are they insane? I just bought 2 books I needed for £40 and cringed and nearly cried at doing that, £50 is a lot of money! My parents asked what would happen if we didn't pay, they said I wouldn't have a dentist any longer and the money may be sort through other means. (We have been with this dentist for a good 10 years or so, quite good friends with my Dad as his son is in his school I think).

I thought my parents were taking the piss but no, they were serious! For that 5 mins or so of doing nothing, the dentist earnt £600/hr. Not only that I probably helped his schedule which is always behind.

On top of this I have a new appointment tomorrow so he will get to shove his hands in my mouth doing what he loves, causing discomfort. Also I will be paying for it (despite being financially unable to) because I haven't sorted out my HC1 form yet which as JB said makes the student loan form look like a walk in the park

/rant

Re: F-ing Dentist!

That's what I thought, I had a feeling it was £19 for some reason....

He's a good dentist and a good guy, as I say, nearly a family friend, just amazed he charged us that much. I might just close my mouth too early tomorrow

Steve: AFAIK it would be next to impossible to find a new dentist, plus it's good to have the same one as everybody else in my family. On top of that it's only just over a mile away so I can walk there which is good now I am a pleb.

Re: F-ing Dentist!

Nice of your parents to tell you - maybe don't give them an Xmas present as a gesture!

BTW, we are on Denplan - only coz our NHS dentist went private, so decided to stick with him. Price ain't too bad though, considering the work I have had done on my teeth already......

Re: F-ing Dentist!

£50??? that is ridiculous! How much is a check up there?

As you know, I've had a bit of dentistry recently, I went back today to have it checked as well as a scale and polish. So thats a total of four visits, the cost in total?

£31.16

Bargain, cheaper than missing it eh?

Re: F-ing Dentist!

I phoned up to query it, still thinking my parents were taking the piss "Mr Harrison, we have had a number of people missing appointments and the previous cost of £25 had to be increased to take this into consideration" was the dentists answer, and I think he also mumbled "And don't you waste my time again you bastard, you will find out tomorrow what pain I can really cause!"

WHat a bastard!

I think the check up costs around £6 or something? I am not sure, first time I have ever paid will be tomorrow, I WILL be saving the recipt to claim on the HC1 form.

Merry ****ing christmas to my dentist lol

Re: F-ing Dentist!

my dentist never charges me, and i never charge her if she is running behind and i have to wait long time after my appointment. i would surgest next time they make you wait longer than the time you have made your appointment you bill them
