Hi,

We're re-doing all of our ceiling (new joists etc) in our newly acquired Victorian house, and after a quick chat to a mate, a google, one form and a brief phone call later, i've just said good bye to a surveyor who kindly left me with a quote for 250mm's worth of warm itchy stuff.

My question is this: Is there any point in searching for a better quote, or are these grants all the same regardless of the name on the van?

Incidentally, our loft has a surface area of 39m2 and 250mm of insulation is going to cost £209 fitted, and i didn't think that was 'great'...

Who's had this done? Can offer any advise on it? - I'd be very grateful to hear from you.

Cheers

Tom

We had something like this done recently and i believe the price was around the same as this, i think you could search and try to quote beat but it maybe more hastle than it is worth

Hi,

You may be right, but after a friend had his cavity wall done all-in for a £100 i was left a little surprised ...

The loft space in my house is roughly 75 square metres and I recently had it done for £125. I think you can do better.

The companies involved were Nationwide Energy Service (I think they were the chaps who did the door knocking and initial survey) and Mark Group who did the work.

I wasn't even thinking about it until the bloke who knocked on the door said they were offering to do it for £99. He did suck in his breath a little after they'd measured up though, made a few phone calls and said they could do it for £125. Of course I snapped his hand off.

Hi,

I should point out that this isn't a top up, they will be doing mine from scratch - was yours, or did they at 6" etc?

Cheers

Tom

They added 6" to what was already there (about 4"). Still damn good for the size of the job.

Indeed - thats nearly twice the value (twice the area but half the depth - £209 vs £125)!

Anyone else had it done?

Cheers

Hi all,

I'm not afraid of DIYing it - hell i've rebuilt (and moved) half the upstrairs stud walls and replaced (well sistered) floor joists, but i thought this 'grant' was meant to make things cheaper - any monkey can roll out some loft insulation!

I'll price it up then - the cheeky beggers!

Cheers

Tom
