Today to my dismay an event occured beyond all nightmares. An end of an era......

I was happily shopping in asda, minding my own business, pondering which biscuits to purchase with my limited budget. Of course jaffa cakes were my number 1 but i do like a second pack. I chose bourbons, a truly under appreciated biscuit with a lot to offer. I made my way quietly to my jaffa cakes and picked up a box of 36.

SHOCK HORROR

£1.75

I double taked, they were 99p last sunday, what is this? It besmirches my name and is a travesty of justice. Just weeks ago we were informed that they were rolled back to that price. Now of course I found them being cheaper than the 24 packs odd and the fact that they were cheaper than buying asda's own brand odd. However, I never expected an 75% increase in price overnight! I am shocked and appalled.

I have now been forced to lower myself to smart price - 12 for 30p ones, they are so cheap they come in a plastic wrapper, not even a box. These are jaffa cakes we are talking about, not some digestives trying to be cool with chocolate on top.

TO add further disappoint to my trip if that wasn't already enough, they didn't have my chicken microwavable sunday dinner. Nor did they have any asda ones except Welsh rarebit which I didn't fancy much after the jaffa cake fiasco. So I was stuck "upgrading" to the birdeye's "Succulent beef pieces" - the irony of this is that I don't even like beef much and it costs about 50pence more. The trip was further let down by a distinct lack of anything reduced (bar a rather nice looking sandwich I have purchase for the handsome sum of 49p from 199p) and the exceptionally slow thinking and moving people that my asda stored is blessed with.

I also took note that on the window they had a "quiet times" poster suggesting which days over the Christmas period you should do your shopping. What an excellent idea! Except suddenly those "quiet times" will become busiest of the lot!

I feel the jaffa cake crime should be brought to the public's attention!

pot noodles are far too expensive for students - one needs about 12 to fill ones stomach and thats far too much cash.

bourbons rule, they are normally my first choice for biscuits.

i feel for you on the jaffa cake situation, they are soooo tasty

IM SORRY, but the way Hob Nobs can retain thier shape AND composure once "dunked", yet STILL crumble when put in said mouth is FANTASTIC,

SO THERE!! :p

I think we're missing the point here, JAFFA cakes have gone up 75%, this isn't some dunking competition! :p jk

Don't worry guys, I have emailed asda. THey owed me a refund (Raviloi without pasta and beef i.e. just sauce kinda pissed me off!) and haven't yet sent it so I included it in my "AND WHERE IS MY REFUND?!" email.

Hob Nobs, they're the SAS of biscuits!

"Dunk me!"
"Dunk me again!"
"Dunk me or I'll drink the b***ard!"

Yes, I do watch too much Peter Kay

This email had better be of the same quality as the ones that went around here last week - was it steve that wrote them??

Sadly no, although my first one was quite humourous IMO: (Obviously not on Steve's level, I will be offering him the oppotunity if asda's excuse is crap)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I just got back from a hard morning at uni with a difficult afternoon up ahead. I fancied a fullfilling lunch so I took out my 47p tin of ravioli and carefully opened it up with a tin opener. I poured the contents into a sauce pan. The contents however shocked me. Normally with tinned beef ravioli, I expect sauce (tastes best with it), pasta (always a good thing) and beef (although not that important it makes a good addition to beef ravioli). Sadly my tin was missing two fairly important ingridients, i.e. I had a tin of sauce. My lunch wasn't so fullfilling afterall.

Paul

If they don't give me a refund on my Ravioli and give me a good excuse for the 75% increase in the price of Jaffa cakes, I will offer it to Steve :) The consumer's hero!

You gotta love ASDA. Esp when you can't get the bags open at the end of the till, and they are throwing the food at you at 200mph lol!

Tesco pack your bags for you :D although if the till girl is fit then I'm kind to her and pack 'em myself ;)
