ebay help

I recently bid on an item on ebay but lost the bid.

Not really thinking too much more about it I rec'd an email this morning (but only picked it up a moment ago) to say that the seller had made a second chance offer.

I was really chuffed and logged on to find that it says "Expires 5th July 10am", so carried on. But there was no buy it now?

Looks like the seller has put the item on from 4th - 5th July but only selected 9am - 10am on the 4th.

Is this a possible mistake to make? Or have I lost it?

I have sent the seller a PM

Re: ebay help

Don't understand what you've said.

They've given you a 2nd chance offer, but now relisted it for a day

I've had a message come through via my ebay account & ebay offering me the item again.
It says the item is valid from 4th - 5th July - BIN
But I've looked at it and the seller has put valid from 4th July from 9am-10am

I think he meant to put valid from 4th at 9am - 5th at 10am

Re: ebay help

get the seller to relist as a BIN and message you the item number
you will be able to view it and BIN before it shows on ebay search
the extra fee's are their problem

Re: ebay help

The seller might have shill bidded on it (ie bid on it himself) and then when he won, gave you the chance to buy it....

2nd chance offers usually don't appear until the 'buyer' has either failed to pay up, or decided they didn't want it....

If the 2nd chance offer appears soon after the listing ended, there's a good chance it was shill bidding....

Make sure, if this is the case, that you aren't paying over the odds for the item....

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh never thought of that

They've been in touch since saying they accidentally sent me the item with a BIN at a low/er price and won't let it go that cheap

Re: ebay help

I do not fully understand eBay but how easy is it to "accidentally" send a bidder a 'second chance'. Does the seller not have to click to agree before sending it?

Make a reasonable offer (below your limit) and be prepared to haggle. If it's a genuine mistake, fair enough. If he's trying to pull a fast one... dob him in! Cheeky b*stard!

Re: ebay help

a second chance offer is sent at the bidders highest bid(unless they have changed it)
so the seller doesnt set the price

No, because they won't let you buy at the price they sent the 2nd chance offer at.

Re: ebay help

To be fair, it is possible that the seller has more than one of the thing he's selling. They'd only list one as an auction to avoid oversupply driving the price down, i.e. let the bidders fight over one.

Then, if anyone else bids a decent price then make a 2nd chance offer. I think it also avoids them paying a listing fee too.
