No, not a rant thread :p

I'm pretty sure that I've read there are a couple of members on here that are in the Police.

Basically, I'm thinking about maybe joining, not 100% sure if the course I've picked for Uni is really what I want to do. So going to look into this, weather it will go anywhere is another question lol.

So, my question is, could someone give me some advice on where to go next? Do you enjoy your job? Good points, bad points?

Feel free to PM if you want :)

Thanks.

Think I'd enjoy being a traffic officer, or crash scene investigator :)

Same, well maybe not a crash scene investigator, as I hate blood (and theres bound to be some...).

Really pisses me off when you see someone driving down the road of their phone or something, just want to slap them lol.

Tell me about it.

You can imagine my reaction when a witness who went to the car of the woman who done this to my dads car has reported seeing a mobile between her legs

It's not just the blood...

bodies burnt to a crisp
bodies hanging from trees (no blood, just a strange yellow colour to their skin)
body parts missing  (inc eaten away by animals)
bodies FLAT on the floor after jumping from tall buildings
bodies swollen from being in the river for days on end

...and the there's the smell :yuck:

And I'm just a civvy!

However, it not the dead ones you have to worry about! The living cause far more problems! :p

I was considering the police force a couple of years back however dont think i'd pass the medical with my disability. Also i've been told I have quite a strong stomach when being mentored in the hospitals however there is a difference with cleaning up bodily fluids in a hospital and dealing with bodily fluids that have been there a good while :yuck: I am also one of these people who think too much into something and can't just move on straight away so if I dealt with a child being abused or something, I dont think I could just get over it and move on.

However I think any police officer do an amazing job with having to deal with half the things they do :slayer:

I've also thought about this, and if I hate my career anymore over the next couple of years Im gonna seriously consider it.

Blood and guts don't bother me in the slightest, I've seen the most sick violent video on the net (that bum that got beaten and stabbed to death etc) and I felt OK just really angry about catching the t**ts that were doing it.

It depends on what your disability is (not fishing so don't say if you don't want to.....obviously)but, dyslexia used to be a bar to jpopmomg the Police but now you can be given a laptop if that will help. The above was a genuine slip of the keys, not a sad attempt at poor taste humour. They've realised a lot of good people were slipping through the net because of restrictions placed on recruitment; such as height.

It's not all blood by any means, but you have to remember it's not all like the Bill where almost every case is solved in one day. It can be very frustrating when you hand a case over to someone else, such as CID or another relief, or even another Division or Force and then never hear anything further, or find out the case is going nowhere even though you're convinced it should be.

It's even worse sometimes when the CPS put the kaibosh on it or you're getting to the end of the detention period and you can't get hold of a CPS Brief. But speak to Jai, he'll set you right and there is a good career path if you're prepared to take it. Our Super's only 42 ferchrisakes. He's only been out of Uni 20 years and he's only a few steps from the top.

It's true what they say about the Coppers getting younger!

yeah but the problem the Police have these days is they have to "follow procedure"...i watch all the police chases on tv and am amazed at how the police have to act when they eventually get hold of a scroat like call them sir and read them their rights etc.

I wouldnt last 2 mins as a copper as i`d probably give them a good kicking before arresting them:bang:

The problem we have these days is the law is too soft on the thugs and dangerous drivers, i mean whats the point of taking a licence off a bad driver, do you think they wont get behind a wheel when they are banned because they do and they never have tax or insurance...

my method of sorting them out is give them one chance then jail them after that for many years - this way they cant do no harm in prison.
oh yeah then when in prison take away radio/tv/computers/newpapers/visits etc - make them suffer...

wow - how i like to rant !!!

Anyone disagree? any do-gooders out there:mad:

Hard of hearing

I know one of my ears is definately below the threashold level they set, not too sure about the other one.

Trying to get my gp to refer for me a hearing test as I think both ears have got worse considerably over the last 6 months. I'll show them the restrictions and get them to confirm if I am too mutton deaf to get in

I work for the Police (staff) and have family who are officers. It can be a very stressful, thankless job, but on the other hand it can be very rewarding, exciting and a good career

The fitness test is very difficult. I have known people who are very fit who have failed it. My mate failed by 3 seconds and had been going to the gym 5 times a week for months beforehand.

Good Luck (y)
