Bascially i left school and got screwed over a couple of times with certain jobs to do with engineering and been a sparky and they've gone away now and im working in a call centre WOOO not lol. Any am 18 and been doing bits and pieces and been helping my dad with is mini changing engine interior basicaly helping redo it all and i've got right into and something id like to take up as a career. One problem don't know how. Well i do and i don't. Obviously can do it as an apprenticeship but money is poor and they don't start till sept and need a placement. So any body got an ideas on how to get into it.

and that you can do simple jobs and are willing to learn and go to college later on in september and will work so far

Good idea got some numbers together any other ideas?

get some cv`s printed off, and get round the garages, tell them you are looking for some were to do an appreticship and have heard good things about this particular garage, tell them all that lol, then have a chat or what ever then as you leave say "look farward to hearing from you soon" and if they dont get back intouch after a few days or a week go back down and say i was in the other day about a job as a aprentic ect....

people knock being a mechanic saying its not well paid and stuff but if you can go to work every day knowing youre going to enjoy it, thats enough i reckon.

i've got an interview for a garage soon, not just working on cars though few different things.

i got mine through remit.

i was on a 18month waiting list btw but got there in the end

you have to have been really bad in a previous life to get reborn as a Mechanic in this one

I was offered a job as a mechanic just from having my car fixed and talking to the bloke who owned it, but all this credit crunch crap he didn't set me on because he wasn't sure if he'd be able to keep an extra person on

another idea is to help out with something like a local rally club? there's one near me where teams are always looking for a spare set of hands to help out.

I have just come home from a college open day.

Apparently at 26 I will have little or no chance getting an apprenticeship, though I could take the 3 year course at my own cost 700 a year.

Most other manufacturers do the same thing, the VW apprenticeship does pay ok and after completing the scheme leaves you with an ATA accreditation qualification.

i only use 2 garages and neither need new people since it would cost them too much
