First of all, I'd like to apologise to anyone that was delayed southbound on the A77 at around 1700 - 1830 last night.

Long story short - My wee Sporting has ceased to be. I got tangled up in a crash involving two other cars. One ended up in my lane leaving me with limited options. I tried to put mine onto the chippings at the crash barrier and I almost made it. One of the cars ended up in front of me and I must have hit it almost square on at about 50-60mph. Fortunately, the NSF corner took the impact first. Pretty scary as you see 5th Gear crashing cars together at 30mph each and the older ones usually end up mangled with the gearbox in the passenger seat and the driver in the boot.

I took myself up to A&E as a precaution as the airbag had slammed my security badge holder into my chest, but I'm 'just' badly bruised. My knee is sore where I whacked it off the dashboard but apart from that and a gradually stiffening neck, I'm OK. The Punto gave it's life to save mine.

Rob's final thought - 10 year old airbags are still effective but they don't smell very nice.

Aw mate, you must be gutted. Sorry to hear that but glad that you are okay and not hurt. Good job you just got yourself checked out in case.

What is happening with the insurance, because I guess it's a write off.

Sorry to hear about your little punto and glad to hear you are safe and ok.

It was lucky that you had the common sense to try and get out of it the situation could have been a lot worse if you hadnt.

Glad your ok though

Ouch

unlucky Rob just a case of wrong place wrong time Hope you recover soon and are back with another shiny less mangled Fiat.

As Emma said at least you did your best to avoid the accident which will show up nicely in any police investigation (a nice deep furrow in the gravel should show that)

What did the police say?

me and my mate got tangled up in an accident a few years ago (not my mates fault) and they were fantastic  Then again i did stop the WPC who attended whilst the woman was apologizing to my mate to stop and listen her face lit up like a christmas tree on hearing an admitting of guilt/fault did you get the coppers number and station it helps speed up any claim (y)

Edit don't forget to keep any receipts for taxi journeys/bus tickets/ prescriptions/ loss of earning in writing from your employer as once the blame has being apportioned you can claim it as part of your losses from the third party (y)

(know one bloke who claimed for his fish and chips which he didn't get chance to eat when he was hit from behind)

as long as your insurance company isnt paying out then you'll probably look bakc and think it was worth the pain because the claim money will get you something nicer than a 10 year old punto sporting. btw, you DO have whiuplash, so get on the phone right now and start your claim. its a terrible world i know, but you cant fix it so join in the claim game.

Cheers folks. The only member that probably knows the area is T14086, but here's what happened;
An orangey mk2 Punto (bugger, friendly fire) pulled out of a junction to join lane one. There was already an Audi A4 in that space. The A4 got nudged into my lane and I had to try and avoid it at 60-70mph in the rain. I couldn't go left because I thought the other Punto would be there and the A4 was straddling lanes 1 and 2 anyway, so I aimed for the gravel and FAILED. If it had worked, I would have been left with nasty dents and scrapes up my off side but instead I was left with a mangled front end. Somehow the Punto that had pulled out must have ended up in lane 2 in front of the A4 (I missed the A4) and I've whacked it at maybe 50mph. I felt the back wheels lift off the ground and the airbag deployed, I then spun 180 and came to rest on the chips facing the wrong way.

A claim form is on it's way and hopefully they can pin it on the driver that pulled out as I'm TPF&T with Elephant. I can't remember if her first words were 'Sorry, sorry - it was my fault' or 'I waited for four cars to pass and then there was a gap'

ps jug - I know it was 10 year old Sporting, but it was MY 10 year old Sporting ;)

write it all down on the form doesn't what order she said it, its the fact that she said it did the audi driver hear it if you both did and both state what she said (PROVIDING YOU BOTH ACUALLY DID HEAR IT) ? did the police interview her/you/audi driver?

if you can get back and get as many photos from all angles (where she came from where the audi was heading (prove she had a good view if you can) show road markings and give way signs are clear

then refer to them in your claim form

Admission of fault is one of those things that gets retracted as soon the other party has had a word with their claims department so it is important there was more than one witness to it being said otherwise it can get messy and end up at knock for knock which as you are TPFT leaves you with nowt.

Bad luck too, shame about the sporting good mk1s are hard to find.

Where was the accident, mate? Was this the one that stopped traffic for ages on Tuesday night roundabout the holmston/whitletts roundabout?

I work in Ailsa Hospital and left work not long after it happened! Got stuck before I got to Holmston Roundabout...and then headed into Ayr. Took me a full 50 minutes to get from Ailsa to the roundabout at the Police Station! :yuck:

But sorry to hear about the death of your Sporting :(:( They are great wee cars and I was sad about the death of mine last year because of HG failure for the 3rd time.

You gonna try and get another one? Dont go the Mk2 route! ;)

Nah mate, that was Monday night, I was last night. Monday night's smash is in this week's Ayrshire Post - a guy needed cutting out of a car and someone else is getting done for dangerous driving. Looks like someone tried an overtake on the single-carriageway and went head-on with some poor bugger.

I've had a lengthy discussion with the other victim and we both agree on the facts so our claims shall reflect what happened and we'll be consistent.

There's every chance that there's going to be a Ducale Grey Sporting in an Ayrshire scrappies soon. If you can get the bonnet open, someone could use the brand new plug leads.

This week must be flying past if that was Monday!

I actually went through Ayr to drop a workmate home last night...or I would probably have passed you mate!

Still gutted for ya about the Punto though. But as already said, at least you are okay, thats the main thing!

Any plans yet for what you want next?

At the seaplane turn off? saw all the traffic (I was going north) but couldn't see the actual cars (seen one..yours! facing wrong way) just outline but looked pretty nasty mate to be honest:(

But.........your ok and thats all that matters(y)

PapaP your talking monday night, was a bad crash that, 3 fire engines were called in. Tailback was unreal with traffic diverted through town.

Amazing that this stretch of road with longest stretch of average speed cameras (22 miles) is still one of countrys most dangerous:(

Sorry to hear about it. Sounds bloody nasty! Glad your ok though. Best of luck with it all. Hopfully it will all come off of the insurance of the Punto/one who came off of the slip road, as it sounds like it was their fault.

Just out of interest would you say the Airbag was more of a hinderance than a help, or that I prevented further injury?

Jon.
