Has any one done this?

If so, how easy is it?

I have an ipod mini and the battery doesnt last a day :(

Its the original mini, so a long time.
Cant afford to buy a new one at the moment, seen some sites that sell the battery for it.

while were talking about faulty ipods i think mine maybe going faulty
my 60gb ipod video has ocassionaly been cutting out
maybe once a day
but what it does is cuts out and then after a second or two comes back on but at a lower volume
i use shure e110's phones on the ipod radio remote so i dont know if its the iphone battery getting more draw from the earphones combined with an older battery?

That does sound plausable.

How long have you had it? Surely its broken if it wont last that long?

batteries will only take so much recharging.

i wouldnt recommend doing it getting the cover off is easy enough but getting it back on again never again.

It's very simple, just remove the Aligator clips, undo the wing nuts then using a big screwdriver, just prize it out. Obvious!

Did it on a 1st gen click wheel iPod and it was fairly easy - bought replacement battery off ebay, cam with plastic tools to open case.

Not tried it on something like a nano or iPod video.

OK, for what it's worth... :)

My iPod battery was ruined as a result of using it only with power supplied (in a car). I never tried to use it separately (with earphones) until it was four years old. Then, I found the battery only lasted half an hour.

So I got a replacement battery and fitted it. Perfect result!
The hardest part is prying apart the casing - the two halves fit really, really well. The battery came with a couple of plastic tools but they broke immediately. It wasn't until I'd worn down both my thumbnails, and scratched the back with a screwdriver, that I finally got in.

Mine is a 3rd-gen iPod (the one with the orange-backlit buttons above the touch dial). It holds a massive 10GB of songs. At the time I could buy a 30GB version, but that was over $1000 (£400+), so I settled for the 10GB - a snip at $650 (£220). :D

I was putting off the idea of buying a newer iPod as the Nano only had 8GB, but now there's a 16GB Nano, I might make the jump :)

Retro Cool! :p

How big's yours then? Is it fat? And did you buy it new? I've never seen a 1st gen (everyone who sees my 3rd-gen thinks it's the original) ;)

Aquired it through work when apple first introduced the iPod, it was an original 5GB version - the replacement battery was slightly thicker than the original and I had to replace the sticky pads with thinner ones (supplied with kit). Can't remember what size the battery was but it doubled the life compared to the old one.

changed batteries on a mini and an ipod photo, piece of pisso!

just watch the hard drive ribbon lol
