Question Painting brake calipers

How? LOL

Do you take the caliper off? Or do it with it on?

Is it spray or brush on?

Any advice please!

Re: Painting brake calipers

tbh mate, i'd do it with the caliper on, just dont smudge it onto the pipes etc.

i used Hammerite a few years back on a Polo and looked great.

Re: Painting brake calipers

Yeah stick some silver hammerite on them.......makes them look loads better! Before you paint get a wire brush and give them a scrub, to get all the rust off.

I did my sisters clio the other day, took me about half an hour, but thats only got 2 calipers

Re: Painting brake calipers

Just jack up and remove the wheel (support properly with axle stands etc) and as previously mentioned remove loose suface rust with a wire brush and spray with brake cleaner for the full clean effect.

Then use Hammerite for the cheap option and a 1" paint brush and just take your time and don't rush and only paint the caliper and parts really visible through the wheel.

Repeat on other side or all round if you have a fancy car!

Liam

Coming soon funny link of how not to paint your brakes!

Re: Painting brake calipers

PMSL at that!

Nice one!

I should have had some paint in, as I ended up swapping my wheels across opposite corners.

Contented myself scrubbing my wheels clean inside and out instead

Re: Painting brake calipers

Ok to answer the original question.

You can do it both ways(you already know how not to!!), easiest way is with them on, place a sheet of newspaper between pad and rotor and brush it on(or spray, but it´s easier to brush on)

Make sure you use high temp paint or it will come off after a few braking sections!!

Mine were silver then black and now red, haven´t taken any paint off yet(they might run a little hotter though)

i don´t really think it´s hi-jacking since this is related
