Bought some raspberries to have with my lunch and they've gone a bit mouldy....Do you think they are safe to eat?

I tried one earlier and I feel a bit weird now, but that might be the wine/beer/lasagne/garlic bread/espresso from last night....

depends how mouldy?

i wouldnt eat completely green furry ones. but if its the odd bit i just leave that bit and eat the rest

mould is harmless, take stilton cheese as a good example.

Not a great example to use....The mould used to make Stilton is indeed harmless, but mouldy Stilton won't do you any favours....:yuck:

Ok so I looked it up and raspberries get 'Botrytis cinerea' which makes them bitter but is relatively harmless....(y)

i ate plenty of mould when i was at uni because we had a health and safety person on campus and they said the only mouldly thing you shoudnt eat is a nut (unless you have asthma). all of a sudden things that had been left in the fridge for months were on the menu again.

Isnt the "mold" in Stilton cheese actually copper? I remember seeing something where thin copper strands were allowed to decay in the cheese.... or maybe I dreamt it up after a party...

Christ knows where I got copper from...

At about 6 weeks of age each cheese is pierced with stainless steel needles to allow air to enter the body of the cheese and activate the blue cheese mould and so commence the magical veining process.

So I put the raspberries in the fridge and clingfilmed them....

Got them out at lunch and the 'mould' had gone....

So I ate 'em....Not dead yet.....(y)

no i dont mean they lived on campus, i mean they came to visit for a day and give us advice and leaflets about personal hygene etc.

on campus 80% of the people are still children and unable to wipe their own arses never mind cook and clean. try sharing a bath and kitchen with a dozen mummy's boys. it only takes 2 weeks to make a pube carpet around the bog and a pretty amazing collection of growths in the fridge. i'm a clean freak so i was in hell. most of them didnt clean their bedding once during the whole year.
