Question Insurance NCB

Just a quicky...

My insurance is up for renewal this month - I'm with Direct Line.
They sent me the renewal through the post @ £401.10 fully comp with protected NCB on a 53 reg Punto Sporting.

Anyway, I did an online quote on their website which came back at £335.

I rang them up and queried it and the guy said I had to take out the policy online then ring them up and cancel my other policy.

My question is this:
What happens to my NCB? Surely, because it's the same company, it won't make any difference and there'll be no problems?

Re: Insurance NCB

Your NCB is safe - you don't need to stick to the same company every year to keep it, as long as the new company has proof of it from a renewal notice.

When you did the online quote, did you ensure you had protected as well - that does add a bit to the premium.

Re: Insurance NCB

watch out some companys only estimate the quote on line and when you change over they add little extras and it works out more

@ panda power - It might come to that!

@ gaz_wrexham - It'd be 10% for buying online and another 10% for having home insurance with them as well. Schweet!

@ Stuart DemonD - I know you don't have to stick to the same company, but I just wondered if there'd be complications as I've got to cancel one policy and start another?
I don't want to lose my no claims just for the sake of 55 quid!

@ panda_gal - That's no good!

Well, you are surely just going to let the current policy expire, don't renew with DIRECT LINE, and then start the new policy with the DIRECT LINE ONLINE company - when they send proposal paperwork through for signature, you then send them proof of no claims, being on the original renewal.

In effect, it is as if dealing with two separate companies.

It just shows you what shopping around can do!

Re: Insurance NCB

You should definetely get legal cover I work in insurance and if you dont get it you can't claim for inconvience, loss of earnings etc. If you can afford it always buy the hire car upgrade unless you want to end up in a daewoo matiz!

Re: Insurance NCB

Could be worse. I ended up with a Ford Ka for a month when I smashed the Bravo. Basic model as well
