Just wondering if anyone has a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) fitted in their car, like what the police use to capture the footage you see on police camera action.

I've been wanting to get one to fit to the Panda, but can't find any good units. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks. Jon.

I use my camera. With a 4gig SD card inserted, it'll record footage for an hour. The camera sits on a tripod (50p from local cheap shop) on the dash, held with blu-tac.
Most cameras have a facility to record footage as well as take photos.
It's a bit of a PITA remembering to turn on the camera & pressing record but there are advantages.

I mentioned this to insurance company as there are discounts offered by insurers in some countries - the footage can be a huge help in the event of a claim.

i've still not got mine set up still need to get a camera

I got one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-CCTV-SD-V...ryZ48632QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

the only thing is it records in blocks of 10 seconds with a 2 second pause in between so sods law wil dictate it will be on its 2 second pause when something happens

really solid bit of kit though the casings di cast alloy

and it auto records from power up so no need to press record.. It runs off 5vdc so i have got a PSP car adapter to bastardise to power it

having said that, maplins car dvr still uses a hdd... what could work is having the HDD in a seperate shock proof caddy with an IDE extention going to the unit.

whats the swann dvr like?
Display frame rate: 25fps
Record frame rate: 6.25fps each
does that mean all 4 cameras are recorded simultaneously? can it be set up to record say 2 camera at 12fps or one at 25fps? whats the quality and resolution like - could you make out a number plate at a decent distance etc? and does it carry on recording from the beginning when the drives full or stop and complain?

sorry for all the questions

The DVR is good quality....

It can be set up to either record in "quad view" so it records the 4 inputs as one channel with the screen split into 4 or "Individual view" where it records each channel at full screen resolution....

check your PM ill scan you the tech specs in from the hand book..

and as for reading the reg plate it depends on the quality of the camera...
