Feeling lazy are we? If you know you're MPG it wouldn't take much to work it out for yourself.

Well then in that case if you dont know what your mpg is how is anyone else supposed to tell you how much it will cost? Your car could drink like a fish for all we know

Not necessarily all cars are different but seeing as you are going on 400 mile round trip, now would be a good time to work out your mpg, if you fill up your tank when you leave it "should" be enough to do the 400 mile trip.

Re: Petrol Cost.

According to Parkers you should get 38 MPG. A gallon is 4.5 litres, thus c. 8.4 miles per litre, for 400 miles you will need approx 48 litres, which at around £1.07 a litre will cost you around £51 Easy peasy

I suspect that 38MPG is the extra urban figure - if you drive at more than 60mph, it'll cost you more - I'd budget on £55-60

Re: Petrol Cost.

theres the morway to get there, but then around there is quite a lot of hills which you need to boot it up (even in a JTD i was down changing and thrashing it 4 up)

so budget for at least what a full tank of fuel might be

i used about 1/5 to go 200 miles or so (100 miles each way)

Nope, not compared to driving at 56 in fifth which is the most economical; yes certainly compared to town driving...I'm getting around 20mpg in the SLK

Re: Petrol Cost.

fill up to the top before you leave.
at the end fill up again and you know what fuel you used to split
or each end depending on useage

Re: Petrol Cost.

I think ours would do that in ~£45 of fuel at ~75mph steady.

If you can get MPG above 40 on a push you could possibly do it on £40's worth

Re: Petrol Cost.

to do it on £40's worth @ £1/litre it would have to do 45mpg,

and TBH middle sized engines IME are never great at economy, 38mpg is prob printe dcombined figure.

if you drive it sensibly (e.g smooth throttle control, not dropping gears etc) @ a steady enough 65-75mph you SHOULD get 42-45mpg..

but at todays petrol prices its gonna cost you least £50, so a whole tank basically

wasn't 4yrs ago when I could fill my little punto up and get change enough out of £30, well enough to buy 2x bottles of drink + 2-4 choco bars, and still see something back (ok maybe 8p).

now it costs me over £50 and I get no snack food
