Could a pothole have caused this?

Driving over a speed bump yesterday (doing about 10mph if that) on the other side of the speed bump was a deep pothole.

Felt the car 'crack' down it and saw my wheel trim go whizzing past the car behind. I was a bit ticked off and went back to get it, tried to put it back on but it had snapped a clip.

But today, when i had the drivers window open it sounds like there is a sqeak coming from the drivers front wheel, it kinds of goes in rhythm with the wheel and sounds like a bolt unscrewing (i'm sure it isn't, its just that kind of noise)

Not only that, but when i stopped at a pedestrian crossing i slowed the car to a stop and the car cut out with the engine management light and battery light on (nothing else)

Could the drop into the pothole have damaged any part of the car that could cause this sort of thing or is Barney just going into self destruct mode?

Thanks

Re: Could a pothole have caused this?

If the squeak is new its possibly the wheel is damaged and the rim of the tyre is rubbing on this damaged part of the wheel, take it in to a tyre shop and get it checked out.

I should have mentioned that it was the passenger side wheels that went down the pothole.

Re: Could a pothole have caused this?

get it checked like said before to see if there is damage and yes a pothole if big enough can cause damage to wheels and suspension systems of a car as councils are refusing to fill in holes because they are underfunded for dealing with potholes financewise. as a stat there was an increase of about £3m in insurance claims because of damage resulting from potholes not being filled in from 05 to 06 and yes insurance companys have taken certain councils to court over the issue and i think they won.

Re: Could a pothole have caused this?

Sounds exactly like what happened to my Mk1 when that went down a pothole. The squeak was a damaged wheel in my case, also broke the damper. Got my trailing arm fixed on the council though

Re: Could a pothole have caused this?

i noticed potholes are getting worse around our area.... on one hand, they need money (some councils, anyway) for repairs, but on the other hand, they are losing money cos they are getting sued for poor roads? its a vicious circle....
but the really anoying thing is, they have been repairing roads that dont need repaired for another year or two IMO, waste of money it seems

Re: Could a pothole have caused this?

Worst council for roads I've known is south yorkshire, everytime I go down there I come back take it to the garage and have a suspension or exhaust component replaced, not only that but their warning signs and placement of roadside furniture is terrible. Corners that round here would be subject to max suggested speed 20mph, chevrons and anti skid paint go un-marked, not only that but you can walk around the place jumping from speed camera to speed camera

Not a penny will go on roads thats for sure.

More like bribes, 'Donations', Government Officials "Expenses", fighting pointless and stupid wars in the scummiest country's on the planet to appease George Bush, Military Overspending to keep over inflated budgets and the list goes on.

Every tax we pay just goes into a big pot and gets squandered on complete tosh for the most part.
