son gets 7 day wonder

my son got stopped by the old bill, reason for stop, check, he hasent got a modded exhaust just a big stainless steel tip thing, old bill said its ilegale son says its just a trim old bill says anything that make the exhaust sound diffrent to standard is illegale. son has a sun strip wipers just touch it old bill says "all" sun strips are ileagle! old bill checks back of car and says why have you got stick on reflectors, son said my lights are tinted people might not see my reflectors so i put them on to make it legale! old bill looked confused.
they ran a check to see if he was insured and licenced it came back ok, but they still want him to produce them!

What car is your son driving? The stilo is the first car I haven't been hasled in, which is funny as it the most expensive/fastest/first one I've been done for speeding in.

Watch I'll get pulled now after saying that.

I had a mate once with a Mark2 escort, he got pulled because it was too loud. when they could find nothing wrong with the exhaust they went over it with a fine toothed comb and eventually fined him £70 for his battery tray not being secure enough[V]

the sunstrip thing, ive been told that they where illegal, but i just ignored them, aslong as its not it the line off view or getting touched by the wipers your ok.

I've only been pulled over once, on the M1 in my old Uno. It was just a spot check but they were only pulling over young drivers. They had a quick look round, checked the tax and asked for insurance/license neither of which I had on me, but they said not to worry on you go!

me an my mates was coming home from a night out and i got into to wrexham and they followed me too my mates house.

we all got out the car and they pulled up behind me, i **** myself cause i only just passed my test.

Heres how the conversation went: P-Police, M-Me

Whilst all this was going on my mates was giving them abuse, they where p1ssed to the eye balls.

P: "Excuse me Sir, Why have u got your stereo on so loud at 3am"
M: Err.....what stereo
P: "You know the ones that go boom, boom"
M: I havent got a stereo
P: "Are u sure?"
M: Well yes, dont i recognise u
P: "Do u Sir"
M: Well yeah, your the one who came too my house when I had my stereo NICKED, along with all the other police
P: "Did we Sir"
M: Yes, (I produce his calling card)
P: "So I did"
M: Can I go now
P: "Well no, we've had reports of a dark coloured car, causing a nuisence, with there music"
M: I HAVEN'T GOT A STEREO
P: "Oh, I , we will just have to check your car then, and give u a producer"

They checked my car and it was all clear and i went to nest day with all my documents.

I've been stopped a few more times, in my sei, but I think that they want just want to look at it:D

my son drives a nova my fault, i would have got him a uno if i found a good one but the nova came up only had 24000 miles fsh and all old mots to back it up, police are a bit divi because if you had a nova and were driving ilegale you wouldn't drive down the high street on a friday night which is where he was stopped.
All the drunk drivers are out in the sticks where i live they know they wont get pulled because you never see the police out here, i wish they would clamp down on them.
Strang thing is if you ask police why they dont sit out side country pubs and stop people who drive out of them at night they say they are not allowed to stop people for no reason,[:(!]

Just whatever you do to your car, know everything about it. If you know it's legal (or can easily be blagged as legal) just stand by it.

Police can say wtf they want, but they can't do you for anything if you know you are truely right and stand by it.

Don't worry about it [8D]

Ive only been stopped once in the red Cinq...failed brake light.

I think they got a bit wary when I answered "Yes" to having been in the pub...shame it was one pint only! hHmm, also liked the fact that I was accused of carrying passengers without seatbelts....a closer inspection reveals all were on, it was just the activity by the OS rear wheel meant they wanted a look!!!

Dave, I do apologise to you for saying this but IMO (and I believe yours, it's just that you are personally involved) I don't have a problem if the police pull over cars which look like they could be "dodgy" - I would mind if as a young driver I was pulled over, it's true to say a lot of people my age may run the risk of driving without insurance etc. - and for 10 minutes of my time, I would rather be pulled if it means that they catch people by using a similar method.

i am not saying that they should pull you for having a exhaust add on at all, just that if things are supsicious, it's worth taking a look right? I think they made a big misake this time but how many times has it been different?

It sounds like your son was pulled by a non-traffic cop which would explain why they know so little about the law re: cars which I personally think was a waste of police time.

I do think everyone is with me when I say I would rather the police be proactive in the majority of cases because it will pay off.

i wasn't pissed about him getting pulled, just the reason time and place, i think there are just as many older people driving around ilegal as there are young ones, its just that the young ones get pulled more.

I also agree with that but they must have figures which show young drivers are most likely to be causing a problem? I don't know, it doesn't make sense to pull a certain demographic for no reason. Some people say it's because they are easy targets but I am not sure if that is true. Oh well. I also agree with the crappy reasons. On the other side of the wall however, there are two guys with corsas in school vaguely modified and they deserve to be pulled considering their driving and various illegal modifications:

Blue strobe lights in headlights
17" alloys which go over 4cm outside of the arches (I am lead to believe that you can't have wheels beyond the edge of your arches?)
Huge sunstrip which is obviously sweapt by 20% of the wiper!

etc. etc.

He needs to have the law explained to him and if that means his age/stereotype etc. has to be used against him slightly more than other people, then I feel fine with that.

Sorry for going slightly OT,
